Heart Attack Man – Fake Blood

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Epic, big baller, no bullshit millennial earworm rock.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Hüsker Dü, Sugar, Jawbreaker, Nirvana.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Out For Blood.”

A) I wanted to write a song about the movie Falling Down starring Michael Douglas because it’s one of my all-time favorite movies and it ties in well with the overall theme of our album.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) It’s an unapologetically edgy song that actually has depth to it which I’m sure to some is a breath of fresh air, especially considering so many artists are terrified of saying anything remotely not politically correct.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) The video’s just lighthearted but still mischievous and menacing fun, which is our overall vibe as a band I’d say.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) Yeah, it’s always music/melody/rhythm first then I fit what I want to say in the framework of the melodies and rhythms. I obsess over the syllables and cadence—it all has to flow right and every word has to count.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I’m extremely hands-on and particular.

Q) You’re out on tour now with Seaway. What can fans expect from a live Heart Attack Man performance?

A) Lotta new songs, very high energy.

Q) What songs off your Fake Blood LP have you been enjoying performing live?

A) We’ve been playing “Fake Blood,” “Out For Blood,” “Crisis Actor,” “Cut My Losses,” “Low Hanging Fruit” and “Sugar Coated” on this tour. I love playing all of them, but “Sugar Coated” is probably my favorite right now because people go off and it’s really fun to play on guitar.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to your new LP as a whole?

A) Ideally, a heightened sense of self-worth as an individual and a complete abandonment of desire to control others.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) Cleveland, Indianapolis, Boston and Chicago all go dumb hard. I love Texas. Utah is sick. I can have a good time anywhere if I’m in the right head space.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Wes Borland from Limp Bizkit—dude’s a genius and doesn’t get enough respect.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I’ve been listening to Fake Blood by Heart Attack Man a lot because it fucking rocks.

Q) You guys are pretty handy with social media and very active online. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) It’s important because it’s an ever-present component of everyday life in this day and age, for better or for worse. I don’t think too hard about it. I just have fun and I love our fans—they’re weird and don’t give a fuck, much like us. We got a good thing going.

Q) James Shotwell wrote a piece on what artists can learn about marketing from the band. What are a couple quick pieces of advice you’d offer up and coming musicians?

A) Get creative, don’t listen to the haters, be honest with yourself, have fun, don’t hurt anyone and be stubbornly determined.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thanks asshole!
