Q) Please tell us the story behind your new single “Can’t Save Me.”

A) “Can’t Save Me” is about that one narcissist that you’ve invested so much time in. You changed so much for that person that you hate what you’ve become. They were a cancer to your happiness.

Q) Josh, I think we call can relate to false friends. Have you been getting a lot of people letting you know how they relate to it?

A) Oh absolutely! I think everyone has someone or a few that really get their blood boiling. I know I do. [laughs]

Q) Horizon Theory is out on tour now with Sevendust. What kind of fan response have you been receiving to the track when you’ve been performing it live?

A) We actually didn’t perform this song on this run with Sevendust. We released it right before we hit the road but were very short on time to get it just how we wanted it to live, so we scratched it from the set. Next tour for sure!! However, the crowd responses on everything else has been absolutely amazing!

Q) Chris Black played guitars and produced the song. Why was it so important to have someone in the group handle that aspect of the music you all make?

A) I think it helps gets our point across really. To see that an actual member of the band produced it makes it more real to us and me, hopefully the fans as well. Chris definitely knows what he’s doing, so having him produce it I think shows that, “Hey, this is us and we’re doing as much as we can on our own!” That just feels good.

Q) With “Can’t Save Me” out, is this a prelude to a full album or an EP by chance?

A) Yes! The full album Radio Silence will be done by the end of November!!! “Can’t Save Me,” along with everything that we’ve already released – plus another six or seven new songs – will be on there!!! We’ll have physical copies signed by the band and it will be available digitally also.

Q) While you’re touring, where have been some of your favorite stops to perform?

A) Oh definitely the Ritz in Raleigh, North Carolina was a favorite! Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom is right up there as well, but nothing beats our home state venue and that’s The Machine Shop!!

Q) What are some Horizon Theory songs that you still really love playing live and why?

A) To be honest, I love performing all of them. The responses we have been getting after every song has just been incredible! To be playing in front of a couple thousand people who have never seen or heard of you before with these reactions are just insane!!! “Nowhere To Go” is probably the top one for me though! It just hits home for me, and so many people in the audience! I’ve definitely shed a tear or two with some fans over the last year after playing that one.

Q) As I mentioned, you’re out on tour with Sevendust. Do you have any pre-show rituals you still insist on?

A) For me, not really. I’ve found myself sitting down during the intro to our first song every night. I’ll sit until the last second before I have to run out there. You might look at me and think, “Man, that dude isn’t ready.” [laughs] Not sure why I do, but it’s became a thing I’ve noticed. The other guys like to take a quick shot or two before they go on. We definitely joke around a lot before we hit the stage, too.

Q) What would you like to say to fans and supporters of the band?

A) We love you guys! Come to a show, introduce yourselves! Don’t be shy because we’re definitely not!! We’re no different than any one of you. If there’s one thing I love about doing this, it’s meeting new people and hearing all of their stories! Can’t tell you enough how much we appreciate all of the love and support!
