How to Get Away with Murder – Make Me The Enemy

Last week’s penultimate episode “Make Me The Enemy” had a final thirty seconds that shocked us all! This season has been a complete roller coaster like always and I, for one, cannot wait to see how tonight leaves us.

We open with Annalise (Viola Davis) and Tegan (Amirah Vann) discussing the information the governor gave us, that Emmett was responsible for the death of Nate Sr. They both are quite shocked and don’t know who to believe. Tegan implores that Annalise uses his feelings for her against him to try and figure if this is true or not. The next day Annalise walks into Emmett’s (Timothy Hutton) office and tells him in no uncertain terms that she wanted to kiss him on Christmas but didn’t and that when he’s ready to take a chance and stop being a good boy for the company she’ll be there.

She then gets interrupted later on that day by Gabriel (Rome Flynn) who’s mother maybe coming for a visit unless he steers her clear. So, Annalise sends Michaela (Aja Naomi King) to help him make sure she won’t come, but she may not be any help because Gabriel doesn’t trust her or any of the Keating clan. He’s not convinced that Wes acted alone in killing Sam. Michaela tries giving him some personal insight on her past including the story she recently told Laurel about her birth parents. Gabriel then insults her by suggesting that she made the story up. She is rightfully pissed and storms away.

Laurel (Karla Souza) pays a visit to the FBI about the mysterious phone calls she’s been getting from who she assumes is her mother and Special Agent Telesco (Melinda Paige Hamilton) tells her that it will come at a price. She is clearly still working the case even after being pulled off it due to misconduct like this. This in the end will most likely not fare out in her favor.

Bonnie (Liza Weil), Asher (Matt McGorry), Connor (Jack Falahee) and Oliver (Conrad Ricamora) all work together to try and get a motion to seize Olly’s computer back from the FBI due to Telesco being taken off the case. At their first hearing the judges denies the motion due to lack of credibility on “Coliver”‘s part, but after some thrifty hacking and some convincing lying during the second hearing by Oliver they end up getting the computer back. Unfortunately, they discover a picture of Telesco and her “Operation Bonfire” murder board behind her due to a program Oliver installed to capture pictures of anyone trying to get past his firewalls. They start to freak about because the FBI knows everything, seemingly.

Tegan and Nate (Billy Brown) each look into the possibility of Emmett killing Nate Sr. with Tegan seemingly verifying the phone records as fact. Nate; however, discovers that weeks earlier Emmett may have met with his father trying to convince him to seek further counsel. Nate can only get a photo of a man from behind visiting his father from his connections and they have to call in Bonnie to blackmail and lie to the warden in order to revive video surveillance of the encounter to see who the mystery man is.

Annalise and Emmett go on a date. She tries to coax a confession out of him but instead ends up berating him due to the fact that she believes he is leaving C&G in order to run for D.A. as a means to distract from it all. He takes it until the next day when he has a chance to listen in to a recording of Tegan’s office being bugged…So, hopefully, her office is the only one and he hasn’t been listening in on Annalise alone because she’s spilled a lot of dirt. He comes blazing to Annalise’s apartment pleading his innocence and promising he had nothing to with this situation. He even insinuates that the call was either faked or wasn’t him at all and it is then at that moment that Frank (Charlie Weber), Bonnie and Nate call Annalise with the true culprit in the video. It turns out all roads lead back to Laurel because it’s her brother… Xavier Castillo (Gerardo Celasco).

It is at the same time that Laurel receives another mystery package at the house. The content of which includes a red haired woman’s (a/k/a her mother) SCALP. It seems her theories about her father doing this from prison may have some merit unless Xavier is doing this all just to get rid of Annalise and Laurel for shedding light on Antares and getting his father caught.
