Ian Thomas – Cheers
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) I describe my sound as mostly pop with some influences of R&B.
Q) Who are some of your musical influence?
A) I look up to people like Justin Timberlake. I think if I make music it would probably be him.
Q) What is it about your new song “Cheers” that connects with fans?
A) The song is basically here to make people smile. It is a very happy song, up tempo. It’s basically me saying, “Cheers to life.” It’s me bringing out a toast. I hope when people are listening to it they will feel better if they are having a bad day and it will make them smile.
Q) How did you get to work with Tyga on the song?
A) My management had contact with his and met up. Tyga is a very, very nice guy. I’ve met him a couple of times. He invited me to his shows and I went backstage with him. He is super cool and happy to be a part of the project. We’re very happy that it is out now.
Q) What is your song writing process like? Do you have to have music before the lyrics?
A) Every song we write is different, but usually we write on a beat.
Q) What are your favorite songs to perform live?
A) “Cheers” of course! Also, “Another Round” and “Lalaland.”
Q) What can fans expect from a live Ian Thomas concert?
A) They are going to have a blast! I love to bring a lot of energy and I also like to get it back. I like to get the crowd jumping. They can go crazy and wild. It’s a fun time!
Q) What can fans do to help promote your music?
A) The best thing they can do is through social media. They can blast it on their pages. that is how to spread it fast.
Q) You are in the running for a Kid’s Choice Award. What would that mean to you?
A) That is awesome! I am very excited for the KCA’s because I am going to the show. I hope I win. I got nominated and I am a little bit nervous, but it would be great if I won.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) Social media is one of the most impactful ways to promote yourself online all around the world. Years ago it was way harder to get noticed all around the world. Thanks to those platforms you can connect with people with just a click. So, I think it is a huge importance. It’s also nice to see all the fans connecting with each other. With the music, it spreads. You see the fans from America, Brazil, Europe and Asia connecting and that is awesome! I just think it is a huge importance. Without it, the music business would be totally different.
Q) Is there anything else you want to be sure fans know about your music?
A) I just want to be a breath of fresh air for the people. I want to be here to inspire others. I want to make a positive change in this world.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your music?
A) I would like to say thank you all for your support and love. It is thanks to you that I can make my dreams come true. This is only the beginning!
