Interviews
Jackie Christie – The Christies: Committed
Q) What are the current projects that you are working on?
A) We are currently involved with our reality show “The Christies: Committed.”
Q) What made you decide to do a reality show based on your lives?
A) It was because we had so much media attention and so many fans that want to ask about our relationship. They want to know how we’ve endured through all of these years and things like that. We decided that it sounded like a good idea when they approached us to do a show because we could let people see for themselves since there were a lot of stories getting misconstrued.
Q) What was the most challenging aspect of the show?
A) When you sign on the dotted line to do a reality show, they get the footage and then you don’t see it until everyone else sees it. You are always curious and you are your worst critic. That’s just a vanity thing because you want to look nice. Other than that, we had a clear message that we wanted to send by doing the show and I think it’s definitely getting out by the kind of response we’re getting. We’re getting a very positive response.
Q) On the show, you renew your vows. Why do you renew them annually?
A) It’s a family tradition that we started back when we got married in 1996. We decided to do it every year and we love it. Our friends and family (plus, now we have people we don’t even know) that look forward to our wedding each year as much as we do.
Q) What is your most memorable moment from filming the show?
A) It would have to be the wedding. Our wedding last year was our eleventh, but our tenth anniversary. We get married every year. That was probably the best because there was a lot of surprises and a lot of different twists.
Q) Do you have any regrets from doing the show?
A) No, none at all. I would do it again. A lot of people say you are opening up your lives to everyone for criticism and so forth. We told them we’re also opening up our lives to send a positive message. We feel the message is getting there so we’re happy with it.
Q) What did you learn the most from your time filming?
A) I learned the most that you just have to be yourself and let your guard down. You have to forget that the camera crew is involved and let them become a fly on the wall so you are just yourself. When you do see the footage, they’ve edited and made a story out of it so you surprise yourself with a lot of things. I found out I am not as shy as I thought I was.
Q) Do you think the show brought you closer as a family?
A) I don’t know if it brought me closer because we are so close it would be very difficult for the show to make that happen. I do think it brought an interesting aspect to it since we are all sharing in it together and my husband and myself have a lot in common. We have businesses together, aside from our relationship, our partnership and marriage. It definitely added spice to it. It’s fun and we enjoy it. We look forward to each and every show. We’re excited about it and now we’re talking about another season with the network. We’ll see what happens.
Q) Why should viewers be tuning in to the show?
A) I think it’s definitely worth tuning in for the message it gives. I hope women can get empowered by what I demonstrate. I am a mother, a wife and I am also a professional. Most importantly, I am my husband’s best friend and his strongest supporter. Right now, with his injury and him going back to playing sports, I have to be his assistant and a nurse’s aid. My hats change all of the time and I think women get empowered by watching it seeing how I juggle all of these things. Men will like that my husband is such a hard worker. He’s dedicated to what he does and they can be empowered by seeing that you can be a pro athlete (despite the stereotype that is out there) who is going against the grain. They will see you can don’t have to fit into the mold and be run by your ego. They will see that you can love your family and your wife. You can make her your queen, your princess, etc. and still be looked at, respected and thought of as cool. We have a lot of kids that we don’t even know that do our sign (my husband makes me a symbol when he’s playing in the game) to us. We know that the message is positive.
Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?
A) Thank you very much. We hope that we can provide you with many years of entertainment and fun. They’ll be special moments, funny moments and all different types of moments. In this day in age, we hope to entertain in a positive and humorous way, versus some of the other ways that are out there.
