Interviews
Jacob Dudman – The Stranger
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) What are the recent projects that you are working on?
A) Just before Christmas we wrapped Season One of “FATE: The Winx Club Saga,” a Netflix original coming out later in the year. I’m currently in preproduction for my feature film debut as a director!
Q) Please tell us the premise for the new series “The Stranger.”
A) “The Stranger” drops into people’s lives, planting the seeds of doubt about their loved ones. Adam Price gets visited and told his wife faked a pregnancy and then she goes missing! The show is essentially: “We all have secrets. How far will we go to keep them?”
Q) What made you want to be a part of the show?
A) Firstly, it’s a fantastic cast to be a part of. There are at least ten people on the call sheet that I could only have dreampt of working with. I’m fascinated by the psychology of lying and the mind-games people play and there is a lot of that to sink your teeth into in this show
Q) How was Thomas Price originally described to you?
A) Thomas was originally pitched to me as a kid who had a perfect life – Family, girlfriend, captain of the football team, doing well at school with high hopes of doing something great with his life. So, getting involved in murder conspiracies could jeopardize all of that!
Q) Were you familiar with any of your costars before you started working with them on the series?
A) Absolutely. I despised Richard [Armitage]- who I now adore and greatly admire – when I was a kid, for killing off my childhood sweetheart Lucy Griffiths in BBC’s “Robin Hood!” But no word of a lie – I knew and admired the work of at least seven of the cast.
Q) What have been some of your favorite moments (on screen or behind the scenes) from filming “The Stranger?”
A) There is a high stakes scene at the start of episode seven, which was immensely fun to film. I love dramatic scenes that make me feel alive. It’s why I love acting. More than that, though, we had the loveliest crew and cast who made coming to work an absolute lark. It was a really positive working environment that was always fun.
Q) You are a part of social media. Are you looking forward to the fan feedback you’ll be receiving to the series?
A) It’s always lovely to hear nice things said about your work, but as time goes on, I do keep more of a distance from that. I think it can be a wobbly egoic ladder to climb, hearing both positive and negative feedback. I’d rather know in myself I’ve done all I could have.
Q) Is there anything else about your time on “The Stranger” you want to be sure we share with our readers?
A) Yes. We had a very special dog on set with us called “Michael Puglas.” He was a very valuable member of the team who sadly didn’t make it into the show’s credits. He helped me read my lines, gave me cuddles on rainy days and always brought good vibes to the set. Also, all your favorite actors really are as lovely as you hope they’d be.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and the work you do?
A) Thank you for the support. Reduce, re-use, recycle!
