Jason Mraz – Know

By  |

By: Robert Warren

Leading from the feeling in your chest, your heart, is not always easy in a chaotic world but Jason Mraz bursts through that to find butterfly feelings of love that connect us. In his new album Know, Mraz does a wonderful job of finding peace through these love letters he creates with his songs and his voice. It is not an attempt to evade the bad that there is in a society, rather it is a look at what good exists to find happiness in a chaotic world, which is what makes this such a wonderfully delectable album.

Let`s See What The Night Can Do

What makes the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter unique is he puts love in a beaker and distills it piece by piece until he finds the greatest aspects of what makes love so special and warming. In this first love letter, he takes us to the quiet night of spending time with the person you love, going on a journey to a destination unplanned that just heads into the moonlight wherever the night is taken. It’s the beauty of getting lost and just spending the time with the person you love that really connects through his message. It’s the simple things really, you fall in love and you can just go from there. While the world may seem chaotic, Jason Mraz brings peace in this lovely melody by reminding us there is happiness through finding time to be with the one you love.

Have It All

What could be more beautiful than wishing the best for someone? Jason Mraz takes a song and uses it to empower us by uplifting it in delight to remind us, yes, you can have it all. It is a blessing. Navigating strong passions, dreams, communications, love – don’t you want them all? Mraz wishes it all upon you. It is a wonderfully constructed work, a song to empower you to empower others. A real feel-good song that really carries deep meaning. This piece is a catharsis from chaos and is a healing work showing how much greatness can come from generosity and just a simple blessing upon someone. Complimenting the idea of this piece the music video for it is just unquestionably moving.

More Than Friends (feat. Meghan Trainor)

Understanding relationships is never easy with a heart that is all over the place, not knowing where it’s going. Sink or swim? Is it a friendship or more? In a love letter this piece is looking for more than a friendship. Will it be reciprocated? Will it last? This is a transfer from one heart to another with no guarantee in an all-risk scenario where there is a desire to make something last in sought out happiness. Whatever happens in the end the moving path of connecting to someone on a deeper level is beautiful and that is what makes this song. There is so much to connect to here and this is a song that can leave you both thinking and hopeful. In this duet, Meghan Trainor has a voice complimenting Mraz wonderfully. While anytime two artists mix it can be an exciting thing this song has a blend that just takes your ear drums to heights of musical grandeur.

Unlonely

While “unlonely” isn’t a word, the narrator does not give a f*** in this song. He wants to be unlonely. It’s all about relationships and Mraz shows us the difference love can make. This song shows how life could be without love verses how it would be with it. The nudge into forming new bonds can be hard, but there is great benefit to be had if you jump over that hurdle. This song serves as hope that there is unlonely in the world. If you were looking to meet somebody – be it an acquaintance, friend, special someone or spouse – this song serves as your guide to finding perhaps that extra nudge of encouragement you may have needed. Mraz uses nice wordplay (as expected from Mr. A-Z ) in this song and the time passes so fast it is easy to find this on repeat in your musical library.

Better With You

The enchanting “Better With You” opens mysteriously with very open vocals and then transitions into a kaleidoscope of music. It sounds as though you are floating on Mraz`s open notes as he guides you through the carried vocals. Everything flows magically in this song and it leaves you thinking, “Wow… that was beautiful.” Love is the answer and Mraz does a great job of not letting us forget that through any of the albums he writes. Separately, you may be strong, but Mraz reminds us that together, when we unite, we are stronger as a world. It is nice really Mraz has made another song on this album that reminds us of how connecting morphs our lives by the relationships we create through our painted world. Happiness, Mraz reminds us, is better together.

No Plans

Starting quiet, it builds and then the song encompasses you. The song hugs you with spinning vocals and is a bit softer than much of the rest of the album. This song is a bit sadder than what the rest of the album encompasses, but “No Plans” is a song guiding you through the darkness to see the light. It has a lot of questions at the start, seeming as though there is no plan, but by the end there seems to be finally be one —loving you. It is a beautiful work, to caring for someone so much that you just love them with everything you have that you set aside your time with no plans but to just love someone. This is a love letter that shows how special, meaningful and important time alone can be. Whether you may have not set aside time for your kid, dating a partner, family or spouse, this song serves as a reminder to try to set that time to love with no plans but them today.

Sleeping To Dream

Missing someone can be hard and can prevent you feeling happiness, but sometimes there is another way to see them again…through your dreams. “Sleeping to Dream” takes us on a journey of intentional sleep to escape into another realm of happiness where the person you miss exists yet again. “Sleeping to dream about you,” the lyrics go by someone claiming to be so tired while they enter the dream realm. The song acknowledges the fact that there are times you have to cry yourself to sleep, but there are times you get to escape and your dreams actually do come true. The brilliance of this song is that it takes us to something like dreaming and makes us appreciate it more as we realize there are opportunities to imagine fantasies and remind us of loved ones far away. Mraz captures the impact people (or even animals) can make that others may sleep to dream about them.

Making It Up

Mraz pulls his lens back on the Earth and how people act. Looking at how we pass down education, stories, tales, and mysteries to one another, Mraz takes on this idea of how we as people are making it all up by creating the world we live in. If we are building this world then why don’t we enjoy it? Why don’t we go for our dreams? Why don’t we make the most of it? We create our days and even what happens tonight. This song serves as a reminder that everything is something we are making up. Even if you don’t understand your purpose in this world it is ok because everyone is making it up.

Might As Well Still Dance

When your obsessed and all you can think about is the person you are interested in it can be haunting as your fixated in every thought of them. However, once you see them again and when they like you back it can be lovely. All you can do, when you find happiness, is take the time to dance. Grab that person you have feelings for and sway, dance and move. This is a fun song serving as a reminder not to miss the special things in life that come to everyone and are free.

Love Is Still The Answer

Why are we here? It is a deep question many people spend their whole lives wondering. Mraz has one answer and it is written very well in his lyrics to this genius song:

“There’s only one answer that matters

Even if your heart has been shattered

Whatever you want, whatever you are after

Love is still the answer

Love is still the answer

Mraz captures exactly that in this album, much of the love that connects us deeply. As shown in an in-depth review of this album, even in a chaotic world there is happiness. With such a strong concept to this work I highly recommend getting in the Know if you haven’t already.
