Interviews
Kendall Vertes – Trico Tri Happy Halloween
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) What are the recent projects that you have been working on?
A) I just got off the Irreplaceable tour with my “Dance Moms” girls. I’ve been working on music and I actually just released a custom case line with Velvet Caviar. And then basically just acting.
Q) Please tell us the premise for your film Trico Tri Happy Halloween.
A) So, it is a Halloween movie, of course. My brother and I both play ghosts and there is a love interest. There are two ghost hunters trying to catch us. It’s a great movie and really funny.
Q) What made you want to be a part of the film?
A) Once our show moved to LA I got to see the whole acting world and I never really aspired to be an actress. But once I started going on auditions and getting acting lessons it was what I wanted to transition into. Then, when I auditioned for this movie and got the job I was so excited!
Q) What did you find challenging about portraying the character Christy?
A) Christy is sort of like my real-life personality. She’s kind of sarcastic and plays jokes on people. Since I’m a ghost I scare people. So, it wasn’t hard for that. With a love interest, it’s sort of awkward when you’re filming it and everyone is watching you. So, I kind of had to overcome that, but it definitely stretched my ability for acting.
Q) It’s a Spanglish movie. Do you get to speak Spanish in the movie at all?
A) I actually didn’t speak Spanish for the movie. I learned Spanish on and off set, but I take Spanish class in high school, so I got to use a little bit of that with the crew.
Q) Were you familiar with anyone in the cast before working with them on the movie?
A) I heard they were on Nickelodeon and I researched them but had never met them before.
Q) What advice did director Christian Vogeler offer while filming that you took to heart?
A) He sort of just said, “Be yourself. Don’t stress yourself out. If there is something you want to change, speak to me.” Everything that he told me was very constructive and helped me with my acting.
Q) What were some of your most memorable moments from filming Trico Tri?
A) I would say just the whole experience in general, meeting everyone. I didn’t know any of the cast members, so I got to meet friends and I got to go to my premiere. It was so fun!
Q) What was it like for you attending the big premiere in Miami?
A) It was crazy! I didn’t expect all of those people to show up! I got to reunite with the cast and everyone who worked on the film. I actually haven’t seen all of the movie with all of the special effects and everything. That was the first time I saw it, which was really exciting.
Q) What do you think it is that will make Trico Tri a fan favorite Halloween film?
A) I think it’s just a really good Halloween movie that everyone can relate to. There are love interests, a party and funny characters. In general, I just think everyone is going to really enjoy it.
Q) What are some of your typical holiday practices for Halloween?
A) Usually during Halloween I’m always filming “Dance Moms.” I’ve been in California for the past four years, so I wasn’t able to dress up. Hopefully, this year I’ll be home and able to dress up with my friends. Usually, I go trick or treating and we go back to each other’s houses.
Q) Do you have any favorite Halloween movies?
A) I love scary movies in general. I love the Scream movies and like Friday the 13th.
Q) You are a part of social media. Are you looking forward to the instant fan feedback you’ll receive to the movie?
A) Yes, I am! I’m excited to see everyone’s feedback on the movie.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and the work that you do?
A) Thank you for always following me and believing in me! I hope you guys enjoy the movie.
