Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Organic, authentic, emotional

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Shania Twain

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Spiritual.”

A) 2017 was a tough year for me and forced me to make some big decisions in my life. After parting ways with my manager, losing a writing deal, a significant relationship and struggling to make ends meet, I moved from Nashville to California feeling pretty defeated. “Spiritual” is all about me finding myself again and coming alive. I fell in love with the ocean and it taught me how to overcome fear and to be able to move forward. It was truly a spiritual experience

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I think they will connect to the rawness of the song. The song is really authentic to where I am in my life and I really believe that other people can relate to that space, too.

Q) Your recent music is a brand new style for you. What made you want to switch things up?

A) After moving and rediscovering myself a bit, I realized that I had been trying really hard to please everyone around me instead of just writing my truth. As an artist, I believe you have to be real and vulnerable and create something authentic to who and where you are.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) It’s different every time for me. I get a lot of melodies in the shower, honestly. I always keep my phone outside of the shower and grab it if I get inspired. I think the best in the shower because I think I’m relaxed, maybe? LOL! It’s usually a melody first and then an idea comes soon after.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I am pretty hands on with production… sometimes maybe even a little too much, if you ask some of the people I’ve worked with. HAHA! I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist. But, honestly, I have such a clear vision now for how I want it all to look and sound and it’s important to me to stay true to that.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Courtney Cole performance?

A) A lot of authentic stories, a lot of heart, and some belty notes. [wink]

Q) Will there be a full EP or album coming in the near future?

A) This is something I am working on every day. [smile] I am hoping sooner than later!

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) Truly, I love it all. Being on stage and sharing myself is where I feel most myself. Whether it be for 10 people or 10,000 people, I get the same high either way. My favorite performance so far would have to have been in Jonesboro, Arkansas at the ASU arena with Miranda Lambert because many, many years ago I got to sing in that arena with my church and dreamed that one day I would come back and play there as an artist…and I got to achieve that, and that was huge for me.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Celine Dion!

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) Post Malone…because he is such an incredible writer and the production makes me jam HARD. He is inspiring me a lot right now.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) I think social media is a place to share who you are. HOWEVER…I feel like it’s become a way to prove how “perfect” all of our lives are. I’s a little fake. When I think about social media, I think about being authentic and letting people IN… rather than hoping they think I am perfect. I think it’s a great tool to do that.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I would like to say THANK YOU. I realize that success is fleeting and that you are choosing to listen to my music, buy it and be a part of my story. And I am truly honored to be a part of yours. Thank you to all of those who have stuck with me all of these years, and for your encouragement and faith. It’s because of all of you that I am able to do what I love for a living. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
