Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) Obnoxious but hopeful
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) There too many to list. Check out my radio like broadcasts at https://www.thisistheshow.org/.
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Ranting and Raving.”
A) The sound I sang in the chorus was “Rave On.” That was the sound I always went to. Rave on, raving, ranting…Ranting and raving. The lyrics sprung up around that. All from the sound I first sang in the chorus part.
Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) That song in particular? I’m not sure. It’s got a propulsion to it. The guitar sort of grabs you by the hand and pulls you along with it. There’s beautiful vocals in the choruses by Chelsea Hodson. I use a Therevox in it. That might grab people. Perhaps it has something to do with the writing or singing, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
Q) What are some themes you’ll be exploring on your upcoming LP A Drop in the Ocean?
A) Life. Lives. Mine and others’. Lots of lives.
Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) I often make the music first. I write a lot free of any music but rarely does it work when I try and jam those words into a specific space. I usually write music, some words, some sounds and then do that many more times (too many times) and then whichever ones I like best, I finish. Finishing requires lots of Post-It Notes, scissors, tape and other such tools.
Q) You brought on Eric Palmquist for production on the LP, but how much of a hand did you have in the production of this music?
A) It’s really just the two of us, so I’m guilty of anything you hear on this record.
Q) My favorite tracks on the LP are “Peer Into Your Dreams” and “I Don’t Want to Let You Go.” What are some songs that hold a special place in your heart?
A) They all have a special place for me. It’s hard for me to pick favorites, but “Feels Like I’ve Done Wrong” set the tone for the album and was kind of the launch point.
Q) What songs off of A Drop in The Ocean are you looking forward to performing live?
A) All of them someday. I’ve yet to really translate any of this stuff live. I’ll keep kicking that can down the road for now.
Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to your new LP as a whole – either as a message or emotion?
A) I hope it makes them feel hopeful, even though upon first listen that might not be one’s first impression, but I hope it makes them feel like going forward is still a worthy endeavour.
Q) What can fans expect from a live Pluralone performance?
A) Forgotten lyrics and over politeness.
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) Again, hard to pick favorites, but any place that’s a little atypical, I enjoy. Venues can get a bit samey.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) I don’t want to appear desperate.
Q) What artist/musician are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?
A) I’m currently listening to a book about the “October Surprise.” Just more and more inspiration to try and abolish Republicanism from the face of the earth.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) Thank you for listening. It means the world to me. Thank you.
