Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) That’s always a tough question to answer because I feel like they are always changing. Growing up I can remember listing to lots of 90s rock-pop bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Third Eye Blind. The rock-pop sounds of the late ’90s and early 2000s definitely inspired the sound of my recent releases, including “Wallflower.”

Q) What is your process for writing songs?

A) I usually start with chords and then melody. Sometimes I have a concept in mind, other times I let the vibe of the song pull me in a direction and I write about it. Usually, random words will fall into the melody while I’m singing and then I build from there.

Q) Congratulations on your latest hit single “Wallflower” – what was the inspiration behind the song?

A) Thank you so much! I moved around a lot growing up. I got used to being friendly, but not making friends. That way when I moved again it was easier to go. I wrote “Wallflower” when I realized that although my life is different now, some of these habits had continued on.

Q) “Wallflower” explores the relationship you have with yourself and others, was it hard to release a song that was so personal to you?

A) From the beginning, I knew I wanted my writing to be genuine. I wanted the words to come from personal experience and the connections I make with my fans to be authentic. Regardless, I still get a little nervous with every new release.

Q) The single is also relatable to a lot of people perhaps feeling out of place and struggling to find their place in the world; What do you want listeners to take away when hearing the single?

A) I don’t want anyone to feel alone in the way they feel. I think music has an extremely powerful way of connecting people who have never met. For every major event that has happened in my life, I can look back and know exactly what I was listening to at that time. As an artist, I try to capture my own significant moments through music in the hopes that I can be there for others through a shared experience.

Q) Will there be a video coming to accompany the track?

A) Possibly! I shot the cover art with the front camera on my iPhone during quarantine. [laughs] I think a DIY music video might be on its way.

Q) Were there any challenges you faced when writing and recording “Wallflower?”

A) “Wallflower” gave me my first real experience with writer’s block. I knew what I wanted to say, but my brain was like “Not today!” and wouldn’t let me string thoughts together the way I wanted. I called up one of my best friends and favorite co-writing partner, Tatiana Zagorac, while she was on a writing trip in Japan. I sat in my bedroom on Facetime while she sat in a café on the other side of the world and together we wrote “Wallflower.”

Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) It’s always been important to me to be part of the production process. I think finding a sound that fits the direction you envision is not always easy. I am extremely grateful I was able to work alongside Father Bobby Townsend on “Wallflower” as well as the rest of my upcoming EP.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I have so many. But at the present moment, it would be Finneas O’ Connell, Lennon Stella, and Halsey.

Q) What would you like to say to fans who have been supporting your music?

A) I’d have to say thank you for believing in me when I didn’t always believe in myself. The creative process is difficult and in the early stages, solitary. It’s the fans that give me the confidence and the drive to keep going. I appreciate every one of you.
