By: Lisa Steinberg
Q) What is your favorite Disney show besides “Best Friends Whenever” and why?
A) My favorite Disney shows of all time are “That’s So Raven” and “Lizzie McGuire” becuase I grew up on them and they were such fun, inspiring shows.
Q) What can you tease about the upcoming special “Best Friends Whenever: Cyd and Shelby Strike Back” episode?
A) In the new episode, Shelby and Cyd (Landry Bender) finally go on the offensive with Janet Smythe (Nora Dunn) and “strike back.” However, striking back may change everything for them.
Q) What is a day of filming like on “Best Friends Whenever?”
A) It is definitely very fast paced. The scenes shoot quickly and they are one after the other. So, it’s very fast and exciting.
Q) You have great comedic timing. Has comedy come naturally to you or is it something you have honed and studied?
A) A little of both, I suppose. Once you understand the script, it’s all a matter of feeling the pace and energy. The timing just comes with letting go and feeling the script.
Q) What has been your favorite episode to film and why?
A) My favorite episode to film was our jump to the 70’s. It was so fun and exciting with the costumes, the dance number and Ricky [Garcia] and Gus [Kamp] doubling as their dads!
Q) Is there anything that you have added to the role that was not originally scripted for you?
A) What’s really special is that our writers kind of write around our personalities. For instance, you will notice Shelby is a hugger. That was written in because I, myself, am such a hugger.
Q) There was a crossover episode with the “Girl Meets World” cast. Is there anyone else you would love to see guest star?
A) I know it’s a stretch, but we’re dying for Amy Poehler and Tina Fey to be on our show – as literally anything!
Q) What is your favorite aspect of your character?
A) I love that Shelby is so kind and selfless. That’s really something so amazing to me.
Q) What is your latest guilty pleasure? Are you into any particular band, game, music group or book?
A) My latest guilty pleasure is binge-watching Netflilx. I’m very into Foster The People, The 1975 and Empire of The Sun.
Q) What do you hope fans take away from watching the show?
A) I hope that fans enjoy the time travel fantasy and friendship bond between all of the characters.
