Legacies – What Cupid Problem?

We open with the Necromancer (Ben Geurens) and Chad (Charles Jazz Terrier) watching the witches send the hourglass of dark magic to the prison world. The Necromancer isn’t happy as he wants that hourglass. Chad tells him to buck up as there must be something else in the school he can use, right? They’re interrupted by a visitor from the Malivore pit. It’s Cupid.

We’re treated to a montage of Cupid wandering around Mystic Falls with angel wings and a bow shooting anyone and everyone with arrows.

Elsewhere, Landon is (Aria Shahghasemi) trying and failing to fly. Phoenixes are technically birds afterall. But Wade (Elijah B. Moore) is struggling to understand why this is so important to Landon as no one here flies. Landon asks Wade to just believe in him and help him get onto the roof.

It seems it’s a bad day all-around. Dorian is (Demetrius Bridges) begging Emma (Karen David) to stay. With Caroline abroad and freaking out and Alaric (Matt Davis) and the twins in a prison world, he could really use the backup. He asks for her input on the prophecy. Emma says that prophecies are purposefully vague so that they can apply to anything. Despite the pleading, Emma says Caroline needs her and she has to go. That is until the Cupid shoots them both with arrows.

Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) is attempting to interrogate Alyssa (Olivia Liang) in a cage. She demands to know where the ascendant is, but Alyssa says she’s never telling them where to find it.

MG (Quincy Fouse) gets Kaleb’s (Chris Lee) blessing to ask out his sister Kym (Ebboney Wilson). Elsewhere in the forest, while trying to activate his phoenix powers, Landon runs into the Cupid (L. Steven Taylor). They struggle a little and the Cupid aims his arrow at Landon, only to be stopped by Hope.

In the gym it seems we missed a gory scene of Hope cutting off the Cupid’s wing. She is a Mikaelson afterall. While the Cupid laments the barrier spell, she asks Landon to please stop trying to help or one day she might have to choose between saving him and stopping a monster.  Also, according to the Cupid the arrows only awaken the love already inside a person.

Hope examines the arrows and learns there are different kinds of love arrows. She gets an idea and asks her for an arrow to melt a cold dead heart and then stabs Alyssa in the stomach with it.

It turns out Kaleb is not so on board with MG and Kym going out. Taking Kaleb’s advice, MG planned a pool day with chocolate strawberries. Kym is afraid of the water though and allergic to chocolate and strawberries. Before they can make different plans they’re interrupted by Hope. She needs Kym for research and MG to do something horrifying – go out with Alyssa.

Alyssa and MG are in the pool and it’s awkward. Alyssa wants to hook up with MG and MG wants to be anywhere else.

Landon is getting relationship advice from Cupid. He worries that he and Hope aren’t equals. Cupid advises that Landon use one of the arrows on her, but Landon declines. He wants to earn it. Mid-conversation Cupid turns the tables and flies through the roof. He then regenerates.

Landon tries to convene a B-List supersquad meeting. It consists of Jed (Ben Levin), Wade, Pedro (Reznor Allen) and a witch named Drusilla. Jed runs off, but the rest of the group is begrudgingly in. Kaleb walks in with the research and seems a little confused about the squad’s make-up but willing to go along.

While in the pool Alyssa is ready to take her clothes off and that makes the whole plan too gross for MG. He tells her to keep her top on and admits that Hope asked him to seduce an ascendant location out of her. Alyssa seems upset, but says she respects his honesty and will take him to the ascendant.

Another montage of Kaleb’s car and the group going to the town’s Lonely Hearts Club, because where else would a cupid go. So when the gang enters the bar (with the 8-year-old) the love-God is revealed to not be so benevolent. The Cupid is eating human hearts.

Emma and Dorian are about to get married, only to be interrupted by Jed. Jed says he loves Emma and no one ever understood him like she did (Gentle reminder she was the school’s therapist.). Jed wants to marry Emma who seems horrified.  And Dorian is furious.

They’re not the only ones with problems. To kill the Cupid Landon has to shoot it with one of its own arrows, but he’s missing so far. The Cupid shoots Wade in the heart.  Hope interrupts and magic’s an arrow into the Cupid. She’s angry about Landon’s attempt to help and leaves.

But wait, Wade is still blinded by the arrow. The research says the Cupid’s magic fades once it dies. So, the remaining group looks over the bar for the body and it’s gone.

Alyssa and MG continue to share an awkward moment in Alyssa’s room. Alyssa asks MG if Lizzie is the reason MG doesn’t love her. MG says no and admits he’s into someone new – Kym. This makes Alyssa angrier and she breaks the ascendant. This isn’t looking good for the Saltzmans.

Hope is upset the plan went sideways and says, “This is why I do everything myself.” MG defends himself and tells Hope he was the one stuck fake seducing her and that the arrow made her bunny boiling, burn a house down obsessed with him. Hope admits she just grabbed the strongest arrow she could find. MG says they both screwed up. MG states that he has got to go check on Kym and speeds away.

Kaleb had the same idea. They both want to get Kym to safety, but they’re too late. Alyssa shows up and freezes them and says what comes next is between the girls.

Plot twist! As Cupid stands over Hope, who he’s just shot with an arrow, he reveals he’s not really cupid. He’s Pothos, his older brother, and he is there because he wants to eat Hope’s heart. Landon comes in, jams himself with an arrow and offers his heart instead.

Things aren’t much better in the library as Alyssa is attacking Kym with an ax. Kym tries and fails to reason with her and nearly gets sliced in half. Alyssa is furious that she’s waited forever for MG and he wants a human. Then, she changes her mind and says if she can’t have MG no one can. At this she attempts to stake him. While she’s going in for the kill, Kym wacks Alyssa with a very large book.

Landon monologues about his undying love for Hope and convinces Pothos that he should eat him. Pothos takes the bait and rips out Landon’s heart. Can a phoenix regenerate without a heart? At any rate Pothos starts turning gray and dies.

Later, Landon comes back to life and explains he just took a potion designed to kill Cupid’s bother.

MG apologizes to Kym for the days events, but she tells him she’s going home. She understands he was trying to be romantic, but she almost died. She doesn’t want that to happen again. Sadly, they’ll always have Atlanta.

Alyssa goes back to the dungeon, but Kaleb drops off food. She admits she doesn’t know how to bring the Saltzmans back. He tells her MG is not into her so she needs to find a new crush. She says she’ll take that advice and looks at him longingly.

Emma and Dorian lament that time they nearly go married and vow to get the Saltzmans back. Wade then informs them someone broke into the weapons room. It was the Necromancer and Chad, who found what Pothos wanted – a golden arrow. But what does it do?

Hope and Landon share a moment and Hope tells him why she fell for him. Well, she shows him a page from a journal that explains it. They share a kiss and Landon finally flies.
