Lisa – America’s Next Top Model
Q) Who are your favorite designers?
A) That’s a tough one! I like Calvin Klein just because it’s simplistic. Every day you have a different mood. I love Betsy Johnson because she loves hot pink; she’s outrageous, fun and does cartwheels down the runway. I love that! There is so many. Lagerfeld, I love him.
Q) Why did you decide to apply for the show?
A) My friends were kind of trying to get me to do it for a couple of years. My friend basically came to my house and started video tapping me and submitted. From there, you go through audition after audition and call back through call back. Then I got it. I just went day by day with it. It wasn’t my dream to be on “Top Model,” but it’s been my dream since I was a little girl to be a model.
Q) What was your audition tape like?
A) The audition tape that they have on the Internet isn’t the actual real one I sent in. I don’t know why they switched it. Basically, I was in my house and I was just walking around in my bathing suit. I was showing my dog sweaters and my paintings. I walked in the kitchen and I think they showed this part. I was eating cookies off the stove and they were burnt, but I was like whatever they have nuts in them and I like them.
Q) What was it like meeting Tyra Banks?
A) It was pretty cool. I must say I wasn’t as excited as probably most of the other girls because I live in Los Angeles. I met celebrities all the time so I am not star struck.
Q) Why do you think they chose Jayla over you?
A) I don’t know. I think that the show was, basically, about Lisa and who is she was pissing off now. What crazy thing is she doing now? I think if I stayed on the show, it would just continue to be “The Lisa Show” so they had to get rid of me.
Q) What did you like about living in the Top Model house?
A) It was pretty cool. I liked the Jacuzzi in the middle. That was pretty cool. I liked the big kitchen because I love cooking. I dream about a kitchen like that.
Q) What did you learn about modeling from the show?
A) Not very much. I’ve been modeling since I was fourteen, here in Los Angeles, so I have a lot of modeling experience. Stuff that I learned new, not really. I focus a lot on my body to make sure that I have the angles right and I’m concentrating on it. Jay Manuel said that if you look at the pictures you could tell I’m focusing on my body because my mouth is so relaxed and my face is so relaxed. I need to bring it all together.
Q) Why do you think that the others didn’t get your personality?
A) They were all just so stressed out about being what they wanted them to be. Instead of just being themselves and enjoying the time that they were having there, they were just stressing themselves out, day in and day out. Then you lose yourself in that. They just need to calm down, just breath and be who you are. That’s what I was being. I was trying to get the other girls to do the same, but they weren’t coming around, man.
Q) How did you feel being in the phone booth?
A) It was fine. It wasn’t a big deal.
Q) In the car, did you think that Kim was being sincere about changing her ways?
A) No. That’s a whole situation. I was friends with her afterwards, but not really in the house because I knew that she talked about everybody. That’s just negative energy. Afterwards, we were talking onthe phone and we were friends, I had asked her if she ever talked about me in the house. She was like, “No, and if I did I probably just said that I thought you drank too much.” I said, “Oh, no big deal.” But, to watch it and see that every single episode that she’s the main person that’s talking the most about me, that really hurt my feelings. To see the show now, and to see the episode last night where she said she didn’t mean to do that, that’s a crock. She really does try to hurt everybody’s feelings. That actually makes her look ugly since it comes from her own insecurities.
Q) Who did you get a call from on the Sprint phone and what did they say to you?
A) I got a call from my friend Destiny, who is one of the reasons why I did the show. She was basically saying that I should just have fun and not to let anyone bring me down. She was saying don’t let them try and mold you and just be who you are! She said the same thing to me that I say to myself every day.
Q) What was your favorite part of being in London?
A) H&M.
Q) What are you going to do now that you are no longer on the show?
A) I’m going to keep on trucking! I’m a rolling stone! I work it out! I’m going to be going back to modeling now that I am able to work again. You have to lay low until the show airs. I have been test shooting, getting my book up to par, doing a lot of editorial pictures and I finished an independent film that is going to be coming out in the summer time. I am going to keep doing that. I have interviews with managers. I want to know if Ford wants me because if not, I am going to get someone else. They’ve got first dibs so I want an answer.
Q) Who do you plan on keeping in touch with?
A) Ebony! Ebony’s my girl! I love her!
Q) What is your most memorable moment from the show?
A) I wouldn’t be able to pick one! There are so many!
Q) Who do you see winning the show?
A) After going through it all, because now I kind of have an idea of what they want or what they don’t want (I think) and I think that they aren’t going to pick someone with a strong personality. Someone with a strong personality is going to be someone who they won’t be able to mold. I, definitely, was not going to do that. I think it’s going to be someone who they can sway and make them do whatever they want. With that, I’m going to say that it is either going to be Nic or Nicole because they are really quiet and I think that they can be molded and they won’t ask that many question. They won’t hold their ground. They’ll be like, “Yes, sir. Yes, ma’am. I’ll do that sure.” I have too much integrity. You can’t make me do anything I don’t want to do.
Q) Are you heading for the Tyra Banks show now?
A) No. People want to know if I’m going to do “The Surreal Life.” No. I would prefer not to. I’m taking the high road, man!
Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?
A) Thank you very much! I hope that I exuded confidence, style and a lot of fun and good spirit. I hope that everyone does the same. The truth is, going through taking care of my grandparents and taking care of my grandpa while he was dying, he would tell me, “Lisa, live each day like it was the last because you aren’t here that long. I remember when I was your age like it was just yesterday.” So, I’ve been living life since that day just like that. There is no reason to take yourselves too seriously. It’s just silly. Just enjoy each moment and have fun!
