Directed by Aubrey Smyth and written by Leah McKendrick, with a series of scenes expertly edited together by editor Samantha Smith, the short film Liza Anonymous follows a lonely millennial’s attempts at acceptance and companionship. Liza (Danielle Beckmann) is addicted to support groups and has created different personas in order to attend different ones.

Beckman is outstanding in her performance and ability to embody each personality with precision and comedic flair. The message and overall theme will hit home with many viewers. You shouldn’t have to pretend to be someone you’re not just to fit in or feel accepted.

We all sometimes wear “masks” to protect ourselves from either being alone, from getting hurt or for social acceptance, but this film is a pleasant reminder that we should be ourselves because we are enough. Liza Anonymous is an uplifting story that will have you laughing at Liza’s attempts of fitting in and remind you that there is a place for everyone.
