By: Paige Zinaman
Charlotte (Tricia Helfer) and Dan (Kevin Alejandro) wake up to talk about how she’s glad he told her how he really felt about her. They hear Micah (Aidan Gail) and Ivy (Amelie Leviant) in the kitchen attempting breakfast when she tells him they better go before her kids destroy the kitchen. When they get out there, Ivy tells Dan that she made the batter and he tells her to step aside because the waffle king is ready to get to work. Micah is too preoccupied with his phone to pay attention when the door is broken in and Charlotte witnesses a man with many faces come in and kill everyone. She wakes up from her nightmare with Dan beside her and tells him that this time he was in it.
Lucifer (Tom Ellis) is talking to Linda (Rachael Harris) when she asks him if he’s going to tell Chloe (Lauren German) about what how he feels now that she’s not engaged to Pierce (Tom Welling). Lucifer says there is no need because Chloe not choosing Pierce doesn’t mean that she chose Lucifer either. They go back and forth until finally Lucifer tells her there is no need to rock the boat because she knows how Chloe is when pushed and that she’s on the rebound which Linda points out are just excuses. Lucifer then decides that everything needs to go back to normal and leaves.
Chloe arrives at a crime scene when Ella (Aimee Garcia) shows up and apologizes for the bachelorette party that went crazy when they hear a piano playing. Chloe goes to investigate and finds Lucifer playing and drinking. As she approaches him he stops playing and recreates the moment they first met and tells her that he is showing her the life that was normal before Pierce. They go back to Ella who was checking over the body as Lucifer once again starts to relive the past and juggle the baseballs that are sitting on the table. Ella takes them and tells him to be careful with them as she is stunned when neither Chloe nor Lucifer knew what player she was referring to. Chloe notices the broken locks on the door and asked Ella if she thinks it could have been a home invasion and Ella said she thought so too, but the officers said nothing was taken. When Chloe takes the joint from Lucifer she finds a casing on the floor.
Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) goes to Charlotte and tells her that they did it and succeeded in breaking up Pierce and Chloe. She tells Amenadiel that she doesn’t feel any different and that if Hell is built on one’s own guilt she’s screwed. She asks how she will know and how he will know if everything changed and wonders if he’s just as mortal as she is now. Amenadiel tells her that is where faith comes in, but Charlotte tells him it sounds like he’s just as screwed as she is. The victim’s husband Forest Clay (Doug Savant) is led into a room. Charlotte walks up to Lucifer asking who it is and when Lucifer tells her it’s some famous athlete whose wife was murdered the man turns and Charlotte recognizes his face from her nightmare. She tells Lucifer that if his wife is dead and that he did it. Forest tells them what happened when his wife was killed and when the interview is over Charlotte tells Chloe and Lucifer about what happened at the firm she worked for and how she had to dispose of a bag that she swears had dried blood on it. When Lucifer tells Chloe he believes Charlotte, he starts to explain why he believes her causing her to try and cover. Lucifer says it’s okay because Chloe won’t believe him anyway. Lucifer goes to LUX and finds Amenadiel drinking. He tells Lucifer about what Charlotte said got to him and asks Lucifer what if they had control this whole time to which Lucifer doesn’t believe.
Dan and Chloe are talking about the case when Ella comes in telling them that the story Forest gave them doesn’t match up and that he lied about getting hit in the head. Chloe and Lucifer go to Forest’s house to find him exercising and Lucifer uses his mojo on Forest and gets him to admit he was with someone else the night of the murder. They bring in Mia (Emma Bell) who confirms that Forest was with her the night of the murder and that wound to his head was caused by him falling into the table and breaking a lamp. Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) finds Pierce sitting on the couch who seems to be waiting for her all along. He stands up and holds Maze at gun point. He tells Maze that killing him won’t get her to Hell and the only way to go is for Lucifer to fly her down. He tells Maze that there’s a new plan and that she can bring him Amenadiel slightly beaten up so that he can kill God’s favorite son and she can frame Lucifer.
Chloe and Lucifer go speak to Robert Ertz (Terrell Tilford) who worked with Devon. Devon tells them that they never had an affair and that he had to chase off someone who he thought was after the new sneaker design. Chloe tells Robert that she’s going to need to see the security videos that he has of that time. Meanwhile, Amenadiel goes undercover and meets with Ben Wheeler (Colin Egglesfield). They talk when suddenly Charlotte starts making a scene outside causing him to leave Amenadiel in the office. Charlotte tells Ben that every lie they tell adds up and that he’s just as guilty as the criminals he represents. She explains that Hell is real and everyone that works there is going. In fact, before being escorted out she tells him that it maybe to late for God to save them but at least she’s trying. Once she is gone, Amenadiel walks out of the office and tells Ben that he doesn’t think the firm is the right one for him and leaves. He meets up with Charlotte outside the firm and tells her that the planned worked and they leave.
At the station Chloe, Ella and Lucifer go over the security footage when a delivery guy comes up asking for Dan. Lucifer knowing Dan’s luck with packages asks if anyone wants to make a wager on if it was a bomb. Dan shows them the waffle maker he got for Charlotte and the bracelet he got for her as well. Charlotte and Amenadiel go through all the records he was able to get off the computer where they find evidence of a victim who they can’t prove was killed by Forest just yet. Amenadiel takes his leave when Dan shows up; however, once in the parking garage he finds Maze crying by his car. She tells Amenadiel that everything is ruined and that she has no one and she doesn’t know how it happened. Amenadiel tells her that it’s never too late to fix things and hugs her he tells her that she can always be forgiven and that he will always be there for her causing Maze to put her knife away shocked.
Lucifer arrives at Chloe’s house with Monopoly and Trixie (Scarlett Estevez) tells him that trying to play the exact same game the same way is boring and that she should probably finish her homework before she leaves. Lucifer then goes Plan B and pulls out his phone and starts to play music. He makes Chloe get up and dance with him. She tells him to stop, which confuses him. He asks if she enjoyed it before and she tells him she enjoyed it a lot and she doesn’t know why he’s doing it. She then asks if he’s making fun of them. She tells him that maybe they can’t get back to normal because right now it hurts and asks him to leave. Chloe comes busting into Ella’s lab and tells her the theory she came up with and when Ella asks if she’s okay Chloe tells her she couldn’t sleep the night before and had a lot of caffeine. Ella asks if this whole thing is about Pierce and Chloe tells her that it’s about Lucifer. He is actually the reason she agreed to marry Pierce and the reason she couldn’t do it. Charlotte comes in with information to help Chloe and the case and tells them that all the information fits together. Maze goes back to Pierce without Amenadiel and she tells him that killing Amenadiel won’t get his mark back. This is when he goes to take care of it and she ends up laying him flat on his back.
Chloe talks to AJ (J. Anthony Pena) who admits he committed the murder, but for a girl who was dating Forest at the time. Lucifer finds Charlotte and she fills him in on what has happened so far. She leaves and meets Chloe who tells her she may have an idea on how to solve her case. Maze and Pierce continue to fight and when he says he won’t go after Amenadiel he manages to take Maze who in return takes him down. That is until he uses Linda against her enough to sedate her and goes to find Amenadiel. Forest tells Mia to go get him a beer and when one is put in his hand he finds Charlotte who informs him that she knows about every woman he’s ever abused and paid off. He offers her money, but when Charlotte tells him about the bloody duffle bag she got from Wheeler she tells him she kept it. This is when he goes to get his checkbook he grabs Mia and holds her hostage.
Charlotte tells Forest that she is not going to help him again. Chloe comes in and forces Forest to let Mia go who runs over to Charlotte while Chloe takes Forest to the station. Amenadiel meets up with Charlotte who is sitting on a bench overlooking the city as they talk about their lives and how angels are just as flawed as humans. As they talk, Pierce finds a clearing spot and aims the gun at Amenadiel. Right before he fires Charlotte hears the rustling and jumps in front of Amenadiel who catches Charlotte as she goes down. Lucifer tells Chloe that it has become clear she doesn’t need him and that he realized if she doesn’t need him they work together because she wants to and that she did choose him. Lucifer opens up and tells Chloe that he was afraid of her seeing him as a whole that would cause her to run. Lucifer tells Chloe that he’s the devil to which Chloe tells him that to her he’s not. They kiss right as her phone goes off and she gets the call about Charlotte. Amenadiel is holding Charlotte as he tries to keep her talking. She asks him to stay with her when she finally let’s go. Amenadiel’s wings appear and he tells her they can go home now and flies her up to Heaven. Chloe and Lucifer arrive to see her body laying on the ground right as Dan arrives. Chloe runs to Lucifer as they watch Dan grieve Charlotte. Lucifer walks over to where Charlotte was and finds a feather and looks up to the sky.
