Matt Cedeno – King of Hearts

Q) What are the current projects that you are working on?

A) I am not working on anything today. I’ve just been promoting Romancing the Bride, which I finished this summer. I did Hot Tamale earlier this year and I have a small part in Hoboken Hollow. It is a really cool movie and it has a lot of great actors in it. It’s a horror movie and I’ve never done one before. I get killed in a scene. I haven’t seen it yet, but when I talked to the producer he said it was the best killing scene in the whole movie. I’m probably going to do another independent film starting January or February.

Q) Please tell us about the premise of your film Romancing the Bride and your character.

A) The premise of it is basically that I’m holding out for true love. It’s a romantic comedy. My character, Carlos, is from Mexico and he left his childhood sweetheart in search of his true love. He finds Melissa, who is played by Laura Prepon, one night when she is in Mexico. She’s in Mexico getting married and walks in on her husband-to-be with a bridesmaid. She goes out to drink her troubles away and that’s where she meets my character and they fall in love after she has drank a magical potion called “tequila de lomas.” It’s supposed to reveal your true spirit and show who you really are. It’s a drink from the ancient Mayans that they would give to the people to reveal their true spirits to the gods. They drink this, fall in love and get married all in one night. The next morning, the drink wears off and she wakes up next to me not remembering anything from the night before. That’s where the movie begins, right there. The movie is about me trying to show her the reasons and get her to fall in love with me again. She doesn’t even have a memory of her fiancée sleeping with her bridesmaid. She thinks she has to get back to get married, but the whole time I know that we are really meant to be together. We’re in love and I have to romance her again.

Q) Why did you want to be a part of this project?

A) When I read the script it was funny. It was written extremely well. The guy who directed it, Kris Isacsson, is also the person that wrote the movie. The character of Carlos is just extremely charismatic. He deals with a lot, in terms of Melissa’s behavior and her attempts to get back to her wedding. She denies the fact that we had anything to do with each other because she’s a very upper class ritzy kind of girl from the upper eastside. Carlos is obviously a local Mexican and they are extreme opposites. But, when you cut through all of that and really look at who Melissa is, then you see they are perfect soul mates. Carlos knew that, he was kind of the wiser of the two. He puts up with a lot with the many funny episodes that they encounter. It was just a really nice story that ends up well. It’s a story about true love and comedy. There was action in it and all things combined made it a cool project.

Q) What is your most memorable moment from filming?

A) There were so many memorable moments. It was constantly funny because of the heat. It was so hot in Mexico! They had originally intended to film the movie a couple months ahead of time in the end of Winter time/early Spring, but it got pushed back a couple months so we were there in the dead of Summer. We were constantly battling the heat. Through the majority of the movie, there is a wedding dress and it was a huge challenge to keep the sweat from pouring off of us. She had this wedding dress on and sweat was dripping down her legs constantly. She always had to have fans blowing up her legs and the same for me, trying to keep myself from having a wet t-shirt contest. There were several funny scenes. There were a lot of local Mexicans that they hired who didn’t speak a lot of English. That just kind of added to the funny moments. It was a lot of fun the entire movie.

Q) In the film, you get to work with Laura Prepon and Carrie Fisher. What was it like working with such talented actresses?

A) It was a great experience. It was a completely different genre. I had been in soaps prior for several years and there is not a lot of comedy in soaps. It was completely different and a lot of fun. I learned a lot from Laura. She’s on “That 70’s Show” so she brought a lot of comedic timing and experience with her. That was a pleasure. Carrie Fisher, as well, was really funny in the movie. We didn’t have a lot of one-on-one scenes together, but there were several where the three of us were together. It was cool and felt natural. It was a lot of fun and a good experience.

Q) Why should viewers take their time to see Romancing the Bride?

A) It’s written really well and it’s a very cute story. I think you will find a lot of chemistry between Carlos and Melissa, between Laura and myself. I think it’s a lot of fun to watch. I would definitely encourage people from all walks of life to see it because it’s a very fun movie.

Q) You were on “Days of Our Lives” as Brandon Walker. How did you feel being such a popular character?

A) It was nice. It was flattering. I had a good run on that show. It was a lot of fun to work there. I worked with Alison Sweeney the majority of my stint on “Days.” Her character is extremely popular. I had a good time and I think it all depends on the kind of chemistry you have with your coworkers.

Q) What are your other passions besides acting?

A) I’m a pretty athletic guy. I like to be outside, whether it is hiking or playing basketball. I’m pretty active. I’d like to try surfing. My character in the movie was a surfer, but I attempted it once and didn’t really pick it up. It’s much more challenging then you think.

Q) You were on “Fear Factor.” What made you want to take part in it and what was the hardest part of your experience?

A) They just asked me to do it. I watched “Fear Factor” from time to time. I think that everybody kind of wants to challenge themselves every once in a while so I thought it would be a cool thing to do, as long as I didn’t have to eat anything that was going to shorten my life or anything (which I didn’t). They guaranteed that we didn’t have to do an eating portion of it. I’m still frustrated by it because the stunt we had to do was really a matter of luck. It was a stunt where we were in a crash car with a set of keys and we had to find which key fit the ignition. It was a matter of which key you pulled first and, unfortunately, my key didn’t come up until one of the last keys so it took me a little bit longer than I hoped. I was sent away first, which was extremely unfortunate because I am a competitor and I wanted to win. I would have liked to have last at least until the end. It was still a lot of fun. It wasn’t a huge challenge for me, in that it was just sitting in a car trying to find the right key before you got run over by amonster truck. It wasn’t really that big of a challenge.

Q) What do you do in your spare time?

A) I like to read and be active. It just kind of depends on a day-to-day basis. I don’t have a set schedule as an actor. So, it depends on how many auditions or appointments that I have. I like to watch movies, go out to dinner and I like to hang with friends. It always varies.

Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?

A) I would like to say that I appreciate you for being a fan and supporter. I hope you continue to do so and I’ll continue to do work as long as they allow me to provide entertainment. Definitely check outRomancing the Bride. I think you will not be disappointed. It really is a funny movie and I enjoyed making it. I hope you enjoy watching it!
