By: Sammi Turano
The episode opens with Bonnie (Allison Janney) and Adam (William Fichtner) having breakfast and planning their wedding. They are trying to decide how many people to invite, so Adam suggests they choose a place and have the tell them how many people to invite.
Christy (Anna Faris) comes downstairs, complaining about her super tough professor who calls her “Christy Flunk-it.” She says she hasn’t heard that since kindergarten and Bonnie says she used that as a motivator. Adam says if they choose four people they can get married in his car. Bonnie says it is the most practical thing she ever heard and tells him to take off his pants.
Christy is in class, answering a question her professor (Constance Zimmer) gave her. She is nervous and stuttering, causing her professor to make fun of her and the rest of the class. Her answer was correct, but given with the confidence of a cartoon mouse. Her classmate (Miller Tai) asks to see her notes because he is shaking too much to write his own. Christy says she is just writing don’t cry over and over again.
Christy is at the diner with Jill (Jaime Pressly), Marjorie (Mimi Kennedy) and Wendy (Beth Hall). She says her professor is nasty and makes her and her other classmates cry in their cars. She compares her to Bonnie, but educated. Wendy says she cries at the beginning of the day, which makes the ladies concerned. Jill gives her her fruit. Marjorie suggests she can go to meeting by her school.
Bonnie arrives and says she found and booked a place for the wedding, but hasn’t told Adam. She asks for advice, settling on Jill’s suggestion to manipulate him into thinking it was his idea to have the wedding there. Marjorie doesn’t like that idea and wants Bonnie to be honest. Jill passes the fruit on to her.
Christy is in meeting in tears. She is talking to someone in the meeting when she sees her professor walk in.
Bonnie and Adam are looking at wedding venues. They are at a barrel place, which Adam loves and Bonnie hates. She only took him there to show him it was a dump so he would agree to the garden place she wants. Adam thinks this place is the one, but also likes the garden. He agrees to there garden and Bonnie says she will book it.
At the meeting, they all are reciting the Serenity Prayer. When it is over, Christy talks to her professor and offers to go to another meeting. Her professor, named Natalie, says she hasn’t had a drink in six months and is fine. She says when she drinks bad things happen and she doesn’t need a meeting or a prayer her mom had crocheted on a kitchen towel. The ladies go out for coffee.
Bonnie and Christy are home and in good moods, so they talk about their days. Bonnie shares how she got the venue she wanted and Christy talks about her coffee with Natalie. Adam comes home and says he bought the barrel place to turn into a bar. Bonnie is shocked and Christy thinks good mood time is over.
Bonnie and Adam argue over Adam buying the barrel factory. She says he was supposed to hate it and admits she took him there to trick him into getting married in the garden. Adam wonders why she didn’t just say that, so she admits she took Jill’s advice and booked the venue already. Adam wonders why she is mad at him for making a decision without her when she did the same thing. She says his decision was impulsive, hers was whimsical and he leaves in a huff.
At school, Christy’s classmate is reciting an answer, causing Natalie to say she would quit teaching if she didn’t have a mortgage. She calls on Christy and tells her she is a beacon of hope in a room filled with ambulance chasers. Christy tells her classmate she is available for tutoring. Class is dismissed and she asks to see Christy. She tells everyone else to see a movie if they are going to be incompetent. Natalie tells Christy she is torn about her ex and tells her they are going for coffee. Christy suggests a meeting, but Natalie says she would rather talk to her. She also doesn’t care if Christy does the reading and agrees to not call on her.
At the diner, Jill and Wendy want to know if Adam’s stuntman friends are coming. Jill says she will be a year sober then, so she can have random sex. Bonnie thinks she might cancel the wedding, but the ladies tell her she needs to take responsibility for this fight.
Christy gets a call from Natalie, who has become clingy towards her and won’t go to meetings. Christy thinks that she is the reason why she is staying sober and it is the reason why she is nice to her. They tell her that she cannot be responsible for her sobriety, nor should she use her.
Natalie wants to go to coffee, but Christy tells her she is going to the meeting. Natalie feels let down, but Christy tells her she can’t be what she wants and the meetings might work for her the way they did for Christy. Natalie tells her to sit and hopes she did the reading. Christy asks Matt for the notes.
Adam is working on building the barrel factory when Bonnie comes in to apologize. She admits she should have told him about the garden. However, she says without her trick he wouldn’t have the bar. He says he should have talked to her as well, leading him to admit he’s been lost career-wise. He cannot wait to come home and tell her about his day. He also agrees to name a drink after her.
The episode ends with Christy at a meeting, talking about her relationship with Natalie and how the meetings helped her become stronger.
