Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Powerful, dramatic, retro pop.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Freddie Mercury is my number one influence, and others include Christina Aguilera, Prince, George Michael, Whitney Houston, Tina Turner…basically loads!

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Is This Love.”

A) The song is about having that first crush, and neither of you knows whether the other one likes you or not. It’s a fun, nostalgic homage to teenage romance and those carefree days.

Q) The song gives off fab 80’s vibes. What is it about that time that is making a comeback?

A) I love the 80’s and I specifically wanted this song to sound like it came straight out of that era. I think people like the simplicity of pop music from the 80s, and the fact that it was pure, unadulterated pop fun. It wasn’t trying to be anything other than that.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) The upbeat, positive, happy vibe of the song. Also, I think lyrically fans can connect to it because at one point or another we have all asked the question “is this love?”

Q) What is it about “Is This Love” that made it the best way to follow up your last single “Battle Scars?”

A) “Battle Scars” was a more 70’s pop/rock crossover track. It wasn’t heavily produced at all. I wanted to move forward to the 80’s and create a much more produced track that would also be the first ‘happy’ song I’ve ever released! And I’m glad people responded well to it!

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) The video is about going on a first date and there is a whole series of things that go wrong to make things awkward. For example, my date spills the drink, hugs me for too long, etc. The other part of the video is me sitting in my room remembering the date, calling my friends to tell them what happened – that kind of thing. The video played a huge part in promoting the single and I’m really happy with how it turned out.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) Usually, I will think of lyrics and melody before the music is created. There are also times where my producer has presented me with a backing track and asked me to write on it. But ninety-nine percent of the time, for me, it’s the former.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I like to be in the room during production, as I have a clear idea of how I want the track to sound. Luckily, my producer has an amazing way of bringing my crazy ideas to life!

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

A) I don’t have any plans for either right now, but who knows, sometime in the future there might be.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I love to perform at a venue in London called The Bedford. It’s a beautiful venue and the audience is purely there to listen to new artists. The crew is so professional, and the sound is always spot on.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Ahh, in an ideal world, Christina Aguilera but I very much doubt that will ever come to pass!

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I’m very old school and I am always listening to Queen or an 80’s compilation album.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) It’s a very immediate way of connecting with fans and showing them who you are. I try to respond to every message and comment and make a point of being a hundred percent real with them. Artists are no longer an enigma. Fans want to know that they can relate to you, and for me this is really important.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I would like to thank every single one of you for taking the time to listen to my music, and for believing in me. At times I find it hard to believe in myself as this business can really bring you down. The support of my fans means everything to me and keeps me motivated to be the best I can be, for them.
