Olive Vox – Bury Me Low

Q) How would you describe your sound?

Parker: Loud

Caden: Rock music but melodic with harmonies and stuff

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

Caden: Kurt Cobain, The Beatles, Cage the Elephant, Foo Fighters but I like a lot of underground artists as well

Parker: Yeah, we have the same influences like The Beatles, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and underground artists

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Bury Me Low.”

Parker: I was inspired by a video I watched about Slab City in CA

Caden: I wrote “Bury Me Low” when I just turned twelve years old. I put the song aside for a couple years so when Parker and I decided to form our band I told him to write some lyrics for it and it all just came together.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

Parker & Caden: That they miss rock and that grunge feel and they like the groove of the song.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

Parker: The video doesn’t play into the message at all. It just shows us jammin’ out in my bedroom.

Caden: Maybe we can make a video that speaks about the message of the song someday. That would be cool

Q) You also recently covered the single “Finger.”  Very cool!

Parker: Yes, and it was really awesome because we had the opportunity to meet Ty Segall briefly and play after his band Fuzz at Levitation in Austin.

Caden: Yeah, that was really cool, but we didn’t play “Finger” that night because we thought that would be kind of awkward with him there

Q) What is your song writing process?

Caden: I don’t really have a writing process that’s one way.  An example is I’ll play something either on my acoustic or electric guitar and it has to catch my ear. If I can’t imagine a bass and drums and my head isn’t bopping to it, then I won’t use it. If it is, then I share it with Parker, and he takes it and puts the lyrics to it.

Parker: Usually Caden will give me a song that he’s been working on. I’ll take the music and I sing to it constantly in the car or my room until I finally find a melody that I like and then I write lyrics.

Q) Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

Parker: Yes, it really helps to have the music first, but the song is constantly changing as I’m writing. So, Caden and I will work together on melodies until song is complete.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

Parker: We have full creative control of our music.

Caden: We write all parts of our music and bring it to our band and that’s when it comes to life.

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

Parker: Yes, we will release our EP in Feb. 2022

Caden: And we’re releasing another single called “Sunflower” on Nov. 12th

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

Parker: We played Levitation at Mohawk Austin. That was awesome!

Caden: Yeah, that was cool because it was right here in our state, too. We had a psychedelic projection on the wall behind us, and a really great photographer taking photos of us performing. We got some t-shirts and a poster. Can’t get much better than that! [laughs] But we’re going on Tour Nov. 12th-Dec.1st. We’re looking forward to playing at those locations as well.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

Caden: Cage the Elephant or Dave Grohl

Parker: Cage the Elephant and Dave Grohl. I’m right there with Caden.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

Caden: I’m listening to Basement. I’m kind of on an Emo kick. They have really good melodies, and they have that grunge sound that I also like.

Parker: I’ve been listening to Duster a lot lately. I like the whole vibe that they give off. It’s calming

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

Parker: Fans are super important. Without them you would be playing music in your room forever. Social media allows you to talk to yours fans easily and helps connect you with them.

Caden: It gives us the opportunity to show them who we are and we’re able talk one on one with them and it’s great!

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

Parker: We really appreciate you and thank you so much for everything. We hope you’ll come to our shows when we’re in your town.

Caden: Yes, thank you and we have some cool music about to be released. It would be awesome to meet you at our shows! You’re the best!
