Interviews
Paola Andino – Every Witch Way
By: Lisa Steinberg
Q) When are we going to find out about Season 4 of “Every Witch Way?”
A) I have no idea! There is no word about Season 4 at the moment. Either way, it’s been an amazing three seasons and we have been so incredibly lucky to have the support to get the three seasons. A fourth season would be absolutely crazy! So, we’ll see what happens.
Q) With this season, you filmed in a new location!
A) There were so many location shoots that we did this season. It was really fun! You get to get out of the routine of filming in the same places all the time and the fans get to see new places as well. It makes it more interesting. Besides the beach where we filmed a lot of episodes at, we filmed at a gym which was where the bootcamp was. We might also be seeing more locations that we haven’t’ seen before. So, you’ll have to stay tuned!
Q) Where was our favorite location to film this season?
A) Each one was so different! I’m a huge beach bum. I absolutely love the beach and we filmed there for an entire month. It was tiring, but I loved seeing the sun rise before breakfast or as we were finished filming during the day. It was really hot sometimes, but when you get that cool breeze in it was awesome!
Q) What have been favorite scenes to film of “Every Witch Way?”
A) There have been two scenes that I have completely fallen in love with out of the many that are my favorite, besides the finale that I can’t speak about yet. I love the scene where Emma gets grounded. I know that is kind of weird, but throughout the three seasons this is kind of the only time she has actually gotten very disciplined by her father. I know that is very important because she has gotten away with so much. It’s very difficult hiding the magic from my dad because he has no idea I am a witch. She accepts it and is really upset because she hasn’t been grounded before. It was just a very different vibe than the drama we get from the teens. To have the father-daughter relationship (since there is no mother) is very important to the fans to see that she will get in trouble because she can’t always get her way. The other scene I really enjoyed was one of the earlier episodes of the Never Ending Summer Party. When Emma runs away crying when she sees Daniel kissing someone else and Jax (Rahart Adams) goes and comforts her. What I love about that scene is that even though he is in love with Emma, he is such a friend to her at that moment that it is all he really wants is to make her happy and see her smile.
Q) There has been talk of a love triangle. With regards to that, who is Paola rooting for?
A) I knew I was going to get asked this question! The fans have been asking me that every single day. The ones that follow me on Twitter can see that I retweet and favorite those tweets. So, as Paola, I am not exactly neutral. I am kind of leaning towards one boy over another and I kind of have a whole background analysis as to why, but from an actress standpoint I also have justifications for why she would choose one boy over the other. It’s not in my control; it’s in the fan’s control for who she picks. In the final scenes leading up to the finale, I have to give off the vibe that I don’t know who she is going to choose. I have to be very frustrated and indecisive. So, I kind of made a choice in my head as to why she would pick Daniel and why she would pick Jax. If we get a fourth season, I’ll have to play off that and be in love with just one this time!
Q) Who would you like to have more scenes with in Season 4 that you might not have worked with that much?
A) Definitely Melissa [Carcache] who plays Nurse Lily! I love the relationship between Emma and Nurse Lily because she is kind of like an older sister to her. She is not really an adult, but she is not really a teenager. She is like a big sister to Emma and that’s what I love. I have a big brother so I can kind of relate to that, but it’s also really nice because I don’t have a big sister. It’s more relatable for Emma since they are both girls and go through the same issues. Outside of set, I hang out a lot with Melissa and it’s so funny because like our characters she is like a big sister to me and I look up to her in life in general and as an actor. Her work ethic is great and her focus as well.
Q) What motivates you each day?
A) As far as motivational quotes go, I love this one that says something like, “You are not where you want to be, but you are not where you used to be.” I love that because it is true that you can reach your goals, but you will always continue setting more. I love that! As far as actresses go that motivate me and look up to, of course I would say Meryl Streep because she is a legend. Besides that, I look up to Angelina Jolie and Emma Stone. I was recently watching movies with my mom and we watched Crazy Stupid Love and then we watched The Help. I was thinking about Emma Stone who is younger than Angelina and Meryl, but is up and coming and nominated for an Oscar. What I love about her is that her roles are completely different and all of these actors completely immerse themselves in these characters that are so unlike themselves in real life. That is what I strive to as an actress and with future projects that I work on. I really want to make a fluid transition from TV to film because that is really my passion. The last motivational thing would be my love of acting. I get up every day and I work hard in my daily life that will benefit me in acting.
Q) Who are some guest stars we can expect to see?
A) There is somebody that came back who is already here, which is Zombie Phillip (Liam Obergfoll). The fans are really excited to see him again and it’s really cool because this season you can see how he has changed. He is not so foreign to the human world and he can control himself better. He can eat pizza now and he is always craving brains, but it’s great. We left off with Emma deciding if she should help Andi (Danieal Nieves) keep him around in the human world or not because it can be very dangerous, but she wants to help her friend out. So, it’s really hard for Emma.
Q) What is your favorite part of playing Emma?
A) There are so many things I love about playing Emma! I’ve been Emma for quite some time now so she is almost a part of me. We have some things in common. I would say the fact that she is a witch is super cool. I love though that she has always stayed true to herself and she is a little defiant this season and I don’t think she is going about things the right way, but she always has good intentions behind what she is doing. It’s all about family and friends with her and I really admire that because she holds this super powerful position as The Chosen One, but she still thinks about her family and friends above all of that.
Q) What have you taken away from your experience working on the show?
A) As a teen, I have definitely have become so much more confident from working on the show. As an actress, too, you get so much more comfortable being on set every day and it helps so much with memorization because we film Monday through Saturday ten hour days. We have so many scenes to film in such a short amount of time and a few minutes later you have to know all of your lines. Just to experience all of it…No one can take your experience away from it and it helps you improve so much in so many different ways. As a teenager, it’s really important for me to feel confident in what I am doing and I want my fans to be confident. I use that as an example for them.
Q) As a part of social media, do you enjoy the instant fan feedback you receive during the episodes?
A) It has been amazing! I’m consistently taken back by how amazing they are! They make the best edits and photo collages! I never get tired of saying that because they take so much out of their time to make us smile. I always appreciate that and try to respond as much as possible. I’m on Twitter all the time, which is really convenient because I get to chat with them all of the time. It’s been really great! The little bit of negativity you will always get doesn’t count because all of these people give unconditional love and they don’t even know you personally. It’s such a beautiful feeling!
Q) Is there anything else you really want to make sure fans know about the show?
A) Stay tuned for the one hour season finale! The live vote is still going on so go to http://www.nick.com/witch to vote or the can use #TeamDaniel or #TeamJax on Twitter.
