Interviews
Paris Smith – Every Witch Way
By: Lisa Steinberg
Q) What can you tease is new this season and with your character Maddie?
A) This season, Maddie grows so much in so many ways. Her relationships will be tested, she has to learn to help Emma (Paola Andino) with her problems, she is challenged as a witch and so much more! This season is my favorite season because I love how Maddie learns how to help other people, instead of herself, which was so much fun to portray! Also, Maddie’s fashion style has always been on fleek! I wish I could tell you everything that Maddie goes through this season, but I can’t! One thing I know you guys will love is the Everglades! It was so much fun filming there and you can expect A LOT of drama in the Everglades! So, you’ll just have to keep your eyes peeled to the TV on July 6th at 7pm only on Nickelodeon!
Q) How have you grown from portraying Maddie both as an individual and actress?
A) I started Season One playing Maddie at the age of twelve and now here I am playing Maddie four seasons later at fifteen years old. It’s so insane to think back on Season One and think, “Wow, I was only 12!” I am so grateful that Nickelodeon gave me the opportunity to play Maddie at such a young age. As an actress, playing Maddie has been so much fun! It was a fun challenge balancing the comedic side of Maddie and the dramatic side of her, but playing Maddie has definitely stretched me as an actress! Maddie is a character that is very dear to me and I loved playing her because she was so charismatic and funny, yet had some vulnerable moments, as well. As an individual, I’ve grown in learning so much on set, not only from crew members, but mostly from my cast mates. We all have learned so much from each other, on and off set and I am so glad I got to share this experience my cast mates!
Q) Have you heard of any possibilities for an “Every Witch Way” spinoff? If not, what would you like one to involve or revolve around?
A) There is an “Every Witch Way” spinoff, actually! It is called “WITS Academy!” I am so excited for the spinoff and I know you guys will love it!
Q) Is there anyone you didn’t have many scenes with that you wish you had more of?
A) I wish I had more scenes with the Witches Council! They are hilarious, both on and off set! Nurse Lily, Desdemona and Agamemnon are so talented and so funny and I have learned so much from them, not only as an actress, but as a person, too!
Q) What will you miss most about being a part of “Every Witch Way?”
A) I will miss my cast mates the most, for sure. We all basically grew up together and were with each other for so long. I have learned so much from each and every one of them. I will always cherish all of the amazing on and off set memories we’ve all had together. But I know that this won’t be the last time I see/work with them.
Q) What was your last day of filming like?
A) It was so intense! We were all crying and laughing because we were crying, which made us cry more, etc! It was such a roller coaster and the wrap party was so much fun! It was bittersweet! I was so happy to be at the wrap party because I was dancing and having a good time, but It was also very sad to leave them and say goodbye. They showed our very first auditions at the wrap party, which was so hilarious to see how young everyone was! I will never forget my cast members and all they have taught me throughout the years.
Q) Are you happy with the ending for Maddie?
A) I was very happy with the ending! I can’t tell you how it ends this season but it’s so intense and dramatic, to put it lightly!
Q) What do you hope fans take away from the shows legacy?
A) I think fans will take away the friendships that the characters have made throughout the seasons. I also think the fans will take away the magic and effects that happen! The magic I think is the coolest part about “Every Witch Way” and really encourages kids to use their imagination.
Q) Are there any special guest stars this season?
A) There are some familiar faces this season and there are some new faces this season! I can’t give much away, but just know that everything you thought you knew has been completely flipped on its head! Forget everything you thought you knew!
Q) “Every Witch Way” was nominated for a Kids Choice Award, what did that recognition mean to you?
A) I am so blessed to be doing what I love, playing Maddie, and to be nominated was so surreal. It was so amazing and I was so honored to be nominated. I wanted to thank all of my amazing fans and supporters for being so amazing. You guys are the best fans in the universe and I would not be where I am today without you guys. I love each and every one of you with all my heart. I also want to thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to do what I love. I want to lastly thank Nickelodeon for giving the the opportunity to play Maddie and giving me the chance to do what I love!
Q) Are there any upcoming projects that you have or will be working on that fans will get to see you in after “Every Witch Way?”
A) I want to start my own YouTube channel soon! I also want to start working on my music more this year, as well! And don’t miss the Season 4 premiere of “Every Witch Way” on July 6th at 7pm only on Nickelodeon! Of course, I’ll still be dancing!
