Pascale Hutton – My One and Only
By: Donna Sgro
Q) What are the recent projects that you are working on?
A) I recently finished My One and Only, which is a cute romantic comedy for Hallmark airing August 31st.
I also recently participated in Hallmark’s first “Christmas Cookie Matchup” that paired my “When Calls the Heart” cast mates with bakers to create the most creative Christmas cookie creations! “Christmas Cookie Matchup” will air during the holiday season. And, of course, When Calls the Heart season 7 is right around the corner!
Q) In My One and Only you play Stephanie, who is a free spirit looking for that special person in her life. Talk about portraying this character and what you did to make her come to life on screen.
A) With all my roles I try to find their humor and quirks. For me, that’s what is exciting to play and that is what makes the characters interesting and unique.
Q) What made you want to be a part of the film?
A) The movie filmed in Winnipeg, Canada, which was a totally new experience for me and I love new challenges. The movie also has a huge outdoor adventure component to it which I love. I grew up hiking, kayaking, canoeing, snowboarding and swimming in the Kootenays so integrating those passions with acting is always a bonus. Plus, filming scenes that have an action element to them automatically shake you out of your natural rhythm and tendencies and keep things fresh.
Q) In the film you star alongside actor Sam Page. What was it like working together for the first time and what did you guys do off-screen to bring the chemistry together for the movie onscreen?
A) Sam is awesome! We got along right away which always makes things easier when you’re generating on-screen chemistry. We both love cinema and TV and could discuss that all day. But, honestly, most of the days were just spent cracking jokes and laughing.
Q) This movie brings a concept we all know as finding the special person through reality TV. Do you think after starring in this movie it’s possible for people to truly find love that way?
A) I’m not sure…what I do know is that true love finds you at unexpected times and in unexpected ways. My husband and I fell madly in love when I was 19 years old. That’s super young and shouldn’t have worked out, but here we are twenty years later still in love and parents to two little boys.
Q) What were some of your favorite moments from filming My One And Only?
A) I always love when I get to learn new skills through filming. In My One and Only I got to horseback ride, fish and kayak. I had never kayaked on film before and it was very technical but so magical and exhilarating.
Q) What do you think it is about this movie that will endear it to Hallmark viewers?
A) At the heart of this film is the romance and excitement of falling in love but against the amazing backdrop of the outdoors. It’s beautiful. And, of course, Sam Page and Stephen Huszar are fairly easy on the eyes!
Q) The brand new season of “When Calls the Heart” is fast approaching. What has it been like for you to play Rosemary for this long of a time and is there any part of yourself that you bring to the character?
A) Playing Rosemary for seven seasons has been one of the greatest gifts of my entire career. I have loved developing Rosemary and allowing her to constantly evolve. It’s a depth and journey you can only achieve with time. And, of course, over that time the lines have blurred a bit between Rosemary and me. We’re both quite excitable, passionate and direct in nature but I’d like to think I have a bit more tact than Rosemary.
Q) Lee and Rosemary are one of the most beloved couples on the show. You and Kavan Smith seem to have an amazing chemistry. Do the both of you do anything fun to keep that chemistry going?
A) Kavan is one of my best friends, truly. So, everything we do together is fun and funny. We’re constantly cracking ourselves up and telling stories. We could literally spend all day on set just chatting and laughing.
Q) Rosemary seems like she has become a big part of who you are on the show and this season seems to bring a lot more for Rosemary. What are you most looking forward to with this upcoming season of “When Calls the Heart?”
A) The writers constantly surprise me by writing new layers for Rosemary. I love that. I love constantly being surprised by her humor, empathy, vulnerability, and friendship.
Q) What was your greatest inspiration and motivation to want to become an actor?
A) I spent hours and hours as a child immersing myself in imaginative play, creating whole new worlds and characters. I am so unbelievably lucky to have had a mom that created time and space for me to just imagine, just explore.
Q) What would you like to say to all of the Hearties and fans/supporters of your work?
A) Our fans, the Hearties, are the backbone of our show and their loyalty and passion is astounding. We would not be celebrating this level of success without them.
So, thank you. Thank you a million times over, Hearties! We love you!!!
