Pretty Bad Actress
By: Robert Warren
Stalkers are flat out devious creeps making their way sneakily into your space following you around. It is some horror story thinking of someone quietly snapping photographs as you venture out alone and the next thing that happens could be potentially unimaginable if no one were to catch onto the fact you`re being followed or realize you`re gone. During these times witnesses and the people who care about you are vital to what happens next and the film Pretty Bad Actress hits this theme straight on the head making it a solid worth seeing production.
The movie Pretty Bad Actress which is based off the real-life story of actress Theresa Saldana who was nearly killed in a brutal attack by a stalker. When a man`s keen fondness for an actress named Gloria Green (Heather McComb) goes too far he shifts from fan to stalker (John Hensley) by kidnaping her. He also nabs a witness, a really obsessed fan (Stephanie Hodes) of Green. The story is subsequently made into a TV movie about the incident where she plays herself. It is up to the people close to Green to find her, which is basically just manager Al (Danny Woodburn) and her loyal assistant Cheryl (Jillian Bell.) What happens next is a mystery until you watch this worth see production.
McComb shines portraying Green by taking emotional levels to her character to which the audience can connect. Starting at the surface level, McComb breathes life into Green who is a tired actress pushing through the acting scene relentlessly in order to land a new gig. Excavating through Green, McComb plays her character with distress from the Trudie Tussle performance that landed her fame but now only brings typecasting. It seems people have a hard time seeing Green as more than “Trudie Cutie” as the theme song just rings in everyone’s mind.
After being kidnapped, McComb takes her character Green into a sassy backtalker who is feeling very unfortunate being stuck with an obsessed fan. McComb then plays her character determined to get out of this situation and unafraid for the most part, as she doesn’t tolerate anyone that talks smack to her. Needless to say, McComb’s performance makes this movie worth seeing alone.
First-time filmmaker Nick Fituri Scown did a great job writing and directing this production. It is a fun film to watch with the light-hearted comedy that occurs between Green and her obsessed fan. What makes this film work well in the directing of it is the cut offs like when Green was talking on the phone then caught by the kidnapper and then how it transitioned to where she entered his territory.
Working as a comedy, this film does have some hard points like stalking and kidnapping; however, that is what makes it very interesting to watch. I’m looking forward to seeing what Scown has coming next! Pretty Bad Actress is definitely a worth seeing production.
