Interviews
Raegan Revord – Young Sheldon
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) What can you tease is in store for the season finale of “Young Sheldon?”
A) Sheldon (Iain Armitage) finds out that Mary (Zoe Perry) has been hiding a big secret from him, which starts a big fight. Meemaw (Annie Potts) and Georgie (Montana Jordan) have some fun scenes where they are getting back at Dale (Craig T. Nelson) for firing him. That’s all I should say because I don’t want to give anything away.
Q) We loved Missy’s arc this season of joining the boy’s baseball team. Were you a softball or baseball player before the show?
A) I played here and there over the years with my dad, nothing competitive. It’s cool that I found my love of baseball through Missy. I’m actually pretty good at it in real life, too!
Q) Missy finally has her eye on a guy. What do you think it is about Marcus that makes him standout to her?
A) Did you see that hair flip in slow-mo? [laughs]
Q) Missy looks to Meemaw for love advice. What makes her the best confidant for matters of the heart?
A) Meemaw always tells it like it is. I think Missy trusts that Meemaw will always tell her the truth.
Q) Sheldon and Missy are complete opposites. In what ways do they still share that special bond between twins?
A) Although Missy and Sheldon are polar opposites, over the seasons they have shown that deep down they love and support each other. In the episode where Sheldon moves to Dallas to go to the school for gifted children, they share a sweet moment where Sheldon says she’s like green beans and Missy uses her twine pithy to try to communicate with him. They may not understand each other, but they are there for each other in their own ways.
Q) What continues to challenge you about portraying Missy?
A) I wouldn’t say that she’s a challenge to play, especially now that I’ve been playing her for three seasons. This season has been more fun to play though since we got to see a different, more emotional side to her. It seems like the writers are peeling back the layers of Missy and I can’t wait to see what they do with her in Season Four.
Q) What have been some of your favorite moments from filming this season of “Young Sheldon?”
A) Ooooh. So many to choose from! All of the baseball scenes were fun to film. Working with Mr. Craig T. Nelson was cool! He’s funny and has such a dry sense of humor. The fight scene I did with the baseball player was actually considered a stunt, so now I can say, “I do my own stunts.” [laughs] The scenes at the carnival were a lot of fun, too. It really felt like we were at a carnival in Texas. In between filming, Iain and I would play the games and we each “won” a stuffie to take home. I could go on and on, it was such a fun season.
Q) A strong female character can be defined in different ways. What would you say about Missy exemplifies this trait and identity?
A) One good example of how Missy is a strong female character is when she has to pitch against Marcus (London Cheshire). At first, she doesn’t want to because she’s afraid Marcus won’t like her, but in the end she does what’s best for the team by pitching against him. She also stood up to all the boys on the team when they were making fun of her for being a girl that plays baseball. She didn’t give up. Missy always speaks her mind and doesn’t care what other people think of her and I think that’s brave.
Q) What are some of your favorite lessons that “Young Sheldon” has imparted on the viewers?
A) I think something we can all learn from our show is the importance of acceptance and patience. Everyone is special and unique in their own way and should be accepted for who they are. At the end of the day, family will always love and support you…even if they don’t understand you.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of you and this sweet series?
A) Thank you so much for tuning in every Thursday! We really appreciate your support. I hope you loved this season as much as we all loved making in. See you this Fall…hopefully!
