Interviews
RecoHavoc – Sandbox
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Sandbox.”
A) First and foremost, when I heard that beat I went crazy. [laughs] When I heard that sample it touched me. I had to rap about some real-life situations. I had to give them that pain on this Jawn.
Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) I’m talking real life issues that everybody go through, no matter if you’re a millionaire, a worker at McDonald’s, male, female, adult or kid. We got real life issues and I think my fan appreciate the fact that I’m open and honest about who I am.
Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) I like to listen to the beat first to find that vibe that I’m looking for. Normally, I don’t write my music. I usually come off the top with it. I just rap how I’m feeling at that moment that’s works for me.
Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) I’m very involved because I started my career off as a producer, so I know exactly how I want my music to sound.
Q) How does being raised in Southwest Philadelphia influence your sound?
A) I feel like southwest Philly got over looked for on every level, so it automatically put a chip on your shoulder. You grow up feeling like a underdog. That’s why my music is so raw and aggressive “Durf Music.”
Q) What songs off your Started Mixtape are you looking forward to performing live?
A) Every last one of them. [laughs]
Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to your new Mixtape as a whole?
A) That you can achieve your dreams. You just have to get started and put the work in. Also, don’t ever give up and love yourself.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) I wanna work with Future.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) I really appreciate everyone who been rocking with me since day one. I have a real message that I’m trying to get across to the youth. I just thank my fans for taking the time to really understand me as artist. I appreciate every last one of them.
