Rock Mafia – F**k What People Think
By: Matthew Pepe
Q) What was it about this message in “F**k What People Think” that inspired you to get it out there?
RM: There’s a social epidemic where people are allowing others to make them feel like they’re not worthy, like they can’t shine in their own unique way. People judge others just for being different than them. This song is about driving home the point that it doesn’t matter what people think.
Q) “F**k What People Think” is obviously social commentary for today’s world. Why is it so important to you that your music has a something relevant to say?
RM: There’s a social epidemic having others who have more then you making you feel like you’re not worthy or having others not let you shine your own unique way. They judge you for being different than them and we feel like the process of writing the song was about driving home the point that it doesn’t matter what people think.
Q) You have collaborated with many artists. How did this message end up as a collaboration with Goldiie?
RM: We were in a room with Goldiie talking about social media and how it effects our lives and how it effects other people’s lives and how people care way too much about how other people think and if they could stop doing that their life would get a lot happier. Goldiie’s whole life has been about this, she inspired us, she’s an incredible self-made independent artist and has an incredible reputation. She’s authentic to who she is, and she doesn’t apologize for it.
Q) The video for the track has a very trippy late 70’s, Early 80’s vibe. What made you select that as the theme for it?
RM: The sentiments behind the song is a celebration. We thought of it as being an anthem for everyone, even though the lyrics are deep and talking about real issues the idea is to turn it into something that’s really fun and inspires you to feel the feeling of “F**k What People Think.”
Q) What do you hope listeners take away from F**k What People Think?
RM: The secret ingredient to happiness is “F**k What People Think.”
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of your music?
RM: When you put this song on, we want it to empower and give you the sense of “you know what…I’m just gonna do me.”
