Q) Walk us through the songwriting process of “Wasting Time.”

Josh: I was walking my dogs, reflecting on a period when I didn’t feel very productive and every day felt the same, and the melody danced its way into my brain. I took the line “I feel like I’ve been wasting time” to my new friend Scott Sechak and he played the chords over the melody and the rest of the song just flowed through us pretty quickly.

Q) What was the inspiration behind creating the music video for “Wasting Time?”

Katie: We made the video from the road over texts, emails and calls with our amazingly talented friends back home in LA. We wanted to illustrate the feeling of living life on a loop that seems to go nowhere, so when someone mentioned the Groundhog’s Day thing, it felt right. We also wanted to convey the message that there is always light at the end of our darkest times if you just hang in there.

Q) Your music tends to carry important life messages, mainly of positivity, overcoming adversity and determination. Why do you feel it is important to spread these messages?

Josh: We feel that people really need something positive. We all grew up listening to sad music and we know how it feels to be pulled into the long tunnel of depression. So, we made the choice to create positive art for the world that can lift you up instead of bringing you down.

Q) Who have been some of your greatest musical influences?

Josh: The Beatles, as a band and individually, have been one of the biggest musical influences for me personally and I know for the rest of the band, too. Their message of LOVE has stayed with me throughout my life and their positive influence on pop culture has changed the way people see art. Other influences include (but are not limited to) GROUPLOVE, X Ambassadors, the Maine, bleachers, Dashboard Confessional and Misterwives to name a few off the top of my head.

Q) How do you feel your sound has evolved since you released your first album up to now?

Josh: Our sound has always been evolving, even through the first album writing process. We always try to stay true to our message while keeping up with the world around us. We have never considered ourselves to fit one specific genre, so we feel freedom to create whatever we are feeling at the time.

Q) What is are some of your favorite songs to perform live?

Katie: It changes from show to show, depending on what I’m experiencing at that time. Lately it’s been “Fighting With Yourself” because it’s both new, which keeps us on our toes, and completely relatable to me

Q) What has been one of your favorite places to perform live?

Katie: That’s really tough. We have been lucky to perform at some really amazing places! Last summer we got to perform for some of the U.S troops in Central America and it was a true honor. Let’s go with that. [smiles]

Q) If given the opportunity, who would you love to collaborate with?

Josh: I would love to collaborate with Mark Foster of Foster the People. ✌🏾 We all love that band and I think we could create something special.

Q) With the new single “Wasting Time” available for listening now, when can we hope to see a new album?

Josh: We’ve been releasing smaller batches of songs lately and we’re going to keep on that track for now.

Q) What advice would you give to those hoping to break into the music business?

Josh: It’s a tough business, but with the right positive mental attitude and determination you can reach the stars! Just keep going.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of you and your music?

Katie: There is no one in the world who looks and thinks and acts like YOU! The world is special because you are in it. So, be yourself, love yourself and use that love to love the world around you. We’re in this together so let’s be good to one another.
