Rodney Perry – The Urbans

Q) What drew you to this role as Rodney on “The Urbans?”

 

A) Randy is just an awesome guy.  When I first saw the script, he leapt off the page.

 

Q) What aspects of Randy’s personality do you enjoy portraying the most?

 

A) I love his quick whit.


Q) On “The Urbans,” J. Whitman is a successful upholstery shop owner on Urban Avenue. How does Randy fit into J. Whitman’s world and what kind of dynamic do the two characters share?

 

A) Randy is J’s voice of reason

 

Q) The show’s directorial duo, the Green brothers, have both written and directed “The Urbans.” What was it like working with them? Did they bring a unique perspective to the set?

 

A) These two guys seem to share a brain.  They are both brilliant!

 

Q) What is the most thrilling aspect of working on a series that combines comedy and drama?

 

A) I wouldn’t call what we created drama.  “The Urbans” echoes real life. If real life is dramatic then so be it.

 

Q) Comedy has the ability to address societal issues with humor. Does “The Urbans” tackle any relevant topics or challenges? 

 

A) This comedy is rooted in real life so absolutely it addresses some everyday topics.

 

Q) What have been some of your favorite moments from filming or ones that are most memorable?

 

A) Working with the twins is a joy!!

 

Q) What do you hope viewers take away from watching “The Urbans” and how do you think it resonates with audiences today?

 

A) “The Urbans” is like our version of “The Office” or “Seinfeld.” The comedy always hits home.

 

Q) What are some other upcoming projects that you have been busy working on?  

 

A) I’m always busy. I’m doing a national play with Fred Hammond and I’m doing a series called “Kold x Windy” among other things.

 

Q) As someone who has been in the comedy world for so long, what advice would you give to aspiring comedians who are trying to make a name for themselves in the industry?

 

A) Don’t quit… the only way to lose is to quit!!!

 

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of the work you’ve done on this special series?

 

A) Thank you! I try to always be grateful!
