Room 104 – Foam Party
By: Jennifer Vintzileos
We start off learning about the phenom of the 90’s known as a “foam party.” It’s like an average party with drinking and drugs, just with a touch of Mr. Bubbles minus the water. Friends Luke (Harvey Guillén), Jenna (Olivia Crocicchia), Morgan (Alison Jaye), Hunter (Timothy Granaderos) and Jack (Benajmin Papac) are all hanging out in our favorite hotel room. Jack, a relative newcomer to the group and member of the house, has decided to throw a special party as a thank you for their hospitality. While the group is not sure why they couldn’t just drink at home, Jack flips back the bottom of the comforter under one of the beds and turns on a machine to create a foam party. At first Jenna and Morgan seem reluctant to participate, but then everyone joins in on the fun.
As the group continues to drink and party through the night to songs singing about “conformity,” the foam continues to rise in the room until it covers the whole floor. This is when the fun really begins as Luke starts to notice that the hair on his arm is beginning to come off from the foam. Everyone else notices the same, except for Jack who apparently has no hair on his arm at all. When the foam begins to start also ruining clothing and shoes, the party takes a bit of a darker turn. The foam party needs to stop now. Drawing the short straw to turn off the machine, Luke makes his way over to the bed where the foam is coming from and goes to flip the switch. When the group notices that Luke is not moving as his head is now deep in the foam, real panic begins to set in.
Just as the fear of the rising foam sets in Luke rises out of the foam, except now Luke looks like half Luke/half Jack. He goes to charge everyone in the group but falls right back into the foam. The foam itself is not only affecting hair and clothes, it also changes people into Jack. In a panic to get the foam off, Morgan manages to get into the bathroom and try to rinse off in the shower. Jack tries to follow but has the door slammed in his face. When he turns to look at his friends they are no longer Jenna and Hunter, but rather Jack’s face with Jenna and Hunter’s bodies.
Eventually, Jack does get into the bathroom hoping to be safe in there with Morgan, but it is too late. While Morgan’s top half is still her, the bottom half is male. Paralyzed with fear Jack stands there as the new Morgan ambles up to him in almost a zombie-like state, eyeing Jack like he’s her meal—literally. Managing to get out of the bathroom and away from Morgan Jack decides to try and escape the room, wading his way through foam to the door to find it is locked. He is stuck in the nightmare he created.
But the foam is not done yet, as we watch limbs jumping through the foam like fish on their way to Jack. As they attempt to take him down the foam itself now seems to find its way into Jack’s mouth. He becomes a human vacuum taking in all the foam before passing out on the floor. The next morning as he awakens Jack takes survey of the now destroyed and empty Room 104, sans foam. Looking around a little confused and bewildered, Jack finds Morgan’s ID on the ground and stares at it – a bubble popping inside his eye to end scene.
