Interviews
Rory Ogden – Impure
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) What are the recent projects that you are working on?
A) Currently, I am filming an indie film called The Gifts. It is a beautiful story about the friendship between a young girl and an older dying neighbor. It tells the story of the most important gifts in life, the ones that come from the heart. It has been a fun production to work on since there are quite a few kids in the film.
Q) Please tell us the premise for the film Impure and about your character Dinah Jones.
A) Impure is a horror/thriller movie about a teen-aged serial killer named Dinah. Her abusive childhood turns her into a cold blooded killer. Dinah won’t let anyone stand in her way of getting what she wants! Dinah is such an intense character. At first, you see a quiet unemotional person who seems dead inside. As the story unfolds, you realize she is a very smart calculated person. The horrific abuse she has suffered has caused her emotions to retreat inside and make her into a monster who will kill anyone who gets in her way.
Q) What made you want to be a part of the movie?
A) I LOVED the intensity of this role. She is going to be an exciting challenge to film! I have to convey a deadness in my soul to the characters within the movie, but to the movie goers I have to show them my intense twisted evil heart. My real life is so different than Dinah’s that it makes it all the more fun to be able to retreat into this crazy make believe world! That is one of the great things about acting you get to be different people that you would never be in real life. It can be a lot of fun!
Q) Was there anything you added to your role that wasn’t originally scripted for you?
A) I want to bring a more human side to Dinah. I want the viewers to feel sorry for her. I want them to really feel for her because of the abuse she has endured. I want them to see that she might have had a chance to be a normal kid, but her mother drove her to this!
Q) What did you find challenging about the role?
A) Dinah is a really difficult role because not only am I not anything like her I don’t know anyone like her. Creating the backstory that gives her a real personality is harder when you can’t relate at all. I am looking forward to this challenge!
Q) Are you excited to work with writer/director David Rountree?
A) I am extremely excited to work with David. His last film got great reviews! David has a great vision for Impure. He really shares the idea of making people care for Dinah before she goes bad.
Q) You will get to star with legendary horror film star Bill Oberst, Jr. Were you familiar with his work before having him as a costar?
A) I first saw Bill on Criminal Minds and I have to say he scared the crap out of me. His intensity in the episode was utterly terrifying. I was binge watching all the episodes on demand and his ranks as my all time favorite! His list of film credits is impressive. I am honored to have the opportunity to work with him! I know I will be able to learn a great deal from him.
Q) What were some of your most memorable moments from filming the trailer?
A) My favorite part is the scene where my head is under water. We had to do it in one take because my hair takes hours to dry. It was late and everyone was tired, but this scene was so important! They were filling it with warm water and I requested the water be ice cold and said, “It’s go big or go home” before plunging my head into that freezing water! It worked out great because the shocked look on my face was just what they needed.
Q) What do you hope viewers take away from watching Impure?
A) I hope that people feel sorry for Dinah. Even though she is a killer, her life could have been different if she wasn’t abused. I also want them to look closer at anyone they may be making fun of or who seems different. Maybe they should treat them a little better since you never know what horrors they live at home.
Q) What made you want to become an actress?
A) I was always that kid singing in front of the TV and telling funny stories. I kept bugging my Mom and finally she asked an actress friend about what to do. The friend said, “Get her training. Once she sees how much work acting really is she will hate it.” Well, guess what? I LOVED every second of it! I love the long days on sets, the travel, the memorizing lines and most of all becoming someone else for a short while.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to interact with fans?
A) I love to post what I am doing on all my social media. As long as it’s not a closed set, I love to post pictures and videos. When I do red carpet events I love to snap tons of pics for everyone. I love to interact with my fans on my social media. Please give them a follow:
