The Morgue Lives On

Noah (John Karna) hasn’t had it easy and his obsession with the murders was a means of dealing with what had happened has only caused him more pain. He’s lost Zoe (Kiana Ledé) and now he’s giving up on finding the killer. In fact, he’s going so far as having his friends take down his murder board and has every intention of recording a farewell broadcast of The Morgue, a type of eulogy for Zoe.

Before Noah has the chance to follow through with his plans, Gustavo (Santiago Segura) pays him a visit in the hospital. The Morgue does something to people, it helps them cope with what’s happened and it reminds them that nobody gets out of life alive. He wants Noah to continue broadcasting, and as encouragement, he emails him a short comic of Noah and his murder board (let’s be honest, we already new that Noah was a hero).

What is meant to be a farewell to his obsession turns into a rebirth of it. Zoe loved the podcast and would have never allowed him to end it so he’s going to keep recording and each time that he presses upload, he’ll think of her. Things go awry though as he presses the upload button and a mystery file is uploaded to his computer. It is labeled “The Morgue Exclusive” and it doesn’t shed a very good light on Emma (Willa Fitzgerald) and Audrey (Bex Taylor-Klaus).

Goldilocks Caught?

Audrey, Emma and Kieran (Amadeus Serafini) are recruited to take down what remains of Noah’s murder board and they come across something that piques their interest and casts suspicion on one of Lakewood’s newest residents. Eli (Sean Grandillo) has only just arrived to Lakewood, at least that’s what they believe, but a picture of Eli at Will’s (Connor Weil) funeral says otherwise. A few texts from the killer later and the trio are on a mission to discover the truth about Eli and find out whether or not he’s the killer.

Kieran goes back home and Facetimes Emma and Audrey as he tries to find something to add to the growing pile of evidence against Eli. There doesn’t seem to be anything, but as he searches Eli’s bed, Kieran finds a stack of envelopes hidden beneath the mattress. There are more pictures of Eli at Will’s funeral and of him in Lakewood before he was ever supposed to be in town. Audrey wants to take the evidence to the police, but there are letters that she wrote to Piper (Amelia Rose Blaire) and Emma knows that they would incriminate Audrey. A new plan is forged and while Kieran goes back inside to return the letters, Audrey and Emma head to the Brandon James’ property.

Falling Victim to the Trap

You’d think that after hearing Noah’s endless speeches about scary movies and what you can and can’t do, along with living in a town where there is a serial killer on the loose, Audrey and Emma would play it a little safer. Apparently not, though, and they end up falling straight into the killer’s trap.

They arrive to the Brandon James house and split up; Audrey remaining outside to keep watch while Emma goes inside to investigate. The house is empty and all traces that someone may have been there are absent. Emma finds a hidden room and after calling Audrey inside, they discover that someone has been staying there. It’s the killer’s hideout and there’s a chance that it could be Eli’s hideout.

Meanwhile, Mayor Maddox (Bryan Batt) shows up at the property and makes his way into the barn. After receiving a not-so-nice note left by Eli stating that he’s screwed (Eli had snuck into the Mayor’s house after receiving news from his mother that they were leaving town), the Mayor is attempting to cover his tracks. Unfortunately, these tracks lead him straight to the killer and as usual in the horror genre, his flashlight goes out when he needs it most. The person he was supposed to meet isn’t there, but his phone is sitting on a stool. The Mayor receives a text message from the killer of “the killer in the barn” and before he has time to do anything, he is stabbed in the chest.

Audrey and Emma have since noticed the Mayor’s car and they make their way to the barn to discover the Mayor who is quickly bleeding out. They hear a noise and grab weapons (they really didn’t think this through) and police cars arrive. Their hands are coated in the Mayor’s blood and they are holding weapons, including the very weapon that was used to kill the Mayor. With the video that had been released earlier, things can’t get any more incriminating and they are arrested. As Emma points out, the police don’t just believe that they killed the Mayor, they think that they killed everybody.

Final Thoughts

We all need to take a breather after that one. So much happened and so many questions were answered, but at the same time so many questions were raised.

Emma and Audrey have been arrested and while we know that they didn’t play a part in the murders, the evidence that the police have against them says otherwise. They were caught red-handed, quite literally, at the scene of a murder with the victim’s blood on their hands. How will they manage to get out of this one?

Eli. There is so much to say about Eli. He’s been at the top of the list of possible murder suspects for quite some time and after the Heavenly Creatures, he has landed a permanent spot at #1. He was in Lakewood before anyone ever knew that he was, attending a funeral for a boy that he didn’t know. His obsession with the Lakewood Six is more than just curiosity and it’s looking more and more like he’s the one who’s taken over Piper’s job and has been killing.

With only one episode left of Season Two, it’s a sure bet that things will only get more crazy.
