Sean Teele & Blair Redford – The Gifted – Comic Con 2018
By: Heather Tollis
Q) Are we going to get any more flashbacks to his military history?
Blair: Yeah, I would love to do a specific flashback to him in the military. That’s always an option. The cool thing about this new season – we stick with the flashbacks in every episode. I love it. I do have a really cool one. It’s not military related, but it’s a side to Thunderbird’s past that no one really knows about and no one has seen. And, honestly, it’s probably the coolest Thunderbird scene.
Sean: Let me just say if it was me doing it, it would not be as interesting.
Blair: You get to learn so much about the characters from these first little clips of these episodes.
Q) When you’re on set and they say, “We want you to use your powers now,” do you ever just think, “I feel so ridiculous right now?”
Sean: I think really to think about the most is to remove that shame because the real shame would be if you got nervous or uncomfortable and you didn’t sell it. Then, when you watch it back you’d go, “That guy’s not selling it at all.” You honestly have to go full throttle and the final result is so much better. So, it is a bit of a pain, but I’m quite fortunate in a sense that I’m amazed at it. I have light packs attached to my hands so there is some practicality to it. I have light packs and battery machines at all times so that does help. It’s more when it comes to my power that light you can’t really CGI. You can’t improve on what real light what do. The first episode, where I got shot in the pilot, there is a light bulb in my chest and he’s dragging me back into the car. His face is so beautifully lit up by my wound. That’s the genius of Bryan Singer! It just changed the scene entirely.
Q) There are a lot of group scenes in the first season. Where do things stand in Season 2?
Blair: That’s the goal going into the second season. They’ve been fractured, not only the family but the larger group of the underground. So, you find a six-month time jump. They track them down as far as Washington, D.C. so they have a new location.
Sean: It’s taken a toll on everybody. They are constantly on the run. They are constantly using past underground stations, which ever ones are still clinging on. So, they are a source of information and still provide their services. Kaitlyn (Amy Acker) is still doing medical and Reed (Stephen Moyer) is forging passports. The former District Attorney is making fake passports. [laughs] By doing that, we’re also going on a quest to try and bring back Andy (Percy Hynes White) and Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) back from this.
Q) What would you feel today if mutants came forward? How would you approach that?
Sean: I’d want to be one. I’d want to be one if it didn’t mean I was a giant forty-two-inch winged monster with a spiked tail and a nose for an eye. When is that of any value?! [laughs]
