Jace grabs her by the throat and Clary tries to break him free of his possession by telling him she loves him. However, he tells her he doesn’t love her anymore and throws her off the building and onto a car.

Kyle (Chai Hansen) tries to comfort Simon Lewis (Alberto Rosende) about turning over Heidi to the Praetor, but they are interrupted by a knock at the door. Simon answers the door and Maia Roberts (Alisha Wainwright) sees Kyle. She asks what he’s doing there, identifying him as the ex-boyfriend who turned her: Jordan Kyle. Jordan asks them to let him explain, but Simon tells him to stay away from Maia. Simon asks if he’s stalking her, but Jordan tells him that he didn’t realize she was his girlfriend until it was too late. Simon gets angry and tells him to stay away from them.

As Simon follows Maia, he gets a call from Clary and tells her it’s a bad time. Clary tells him that she can’t move and he runs to help her. Simon arrives as Clary struggles to get up, and tells her things are going to be okay. He asks who did this, and Clary tells him that Jace is responsible. At the Institute, Isabelle Lightwood (Emeraude Toubia) is in disbelief that Jace is the Owl. Magnus Bane (Harry Shum Jr.) tells them his findings that the demon responsible is Lilith (Anna Hopkins), the queen of Edom.

Alec Lightwood (Matthew Daddario) asks why Lilith chose Jace, and Clary tearfully admits that Alec was right about Jace dying. Simon asked how Jace came back and Clary confesses that her wish brought him back, but that it made him vulnerable to Lilith. Clary explains that Lilith murdered Ithuriel, and apologizes to Alec for the position she’s put him in. She tells him she understands if he has to report her, but Alec approaches her, embraces her, and tells her he would have done the same thing.

Luke Garroway (Isaiah Mustafa) warns Samantha (Tara Joshi) that she is in danger. Meanwhile, Lilith asks Ollie (Alexandra Ordolis) whom she sacrificed. Ollie tells her she killed her mother, and Lilith tells Ollie that she’s her mother now as she draws Ollie’s blood for the ritual. Lilith tells her disciples that their sacrifices have helped nourish Jonathan, and that their family will be complete when he joins them.

Simon asks Clary why she didn’t tell him her secret, and she replies that Jace told her not to tell anyone. He reminds her that he’s her best friend, and assures her that she doesn’t have to go through this alone. Simon tells her that he has to check on Maia, explaining that the situation is complicated when Clary asks why.

Luke tells the group that Ollie murdered her mother, and Clary assures him that it’s not his fault. Isabelle reminds them that Jace was able to reverse a possession previously, suggesting they have him reverse Ollie’s. Magnus suggests that he could remove Jace’s possession if they capture and contain him. Isabelle suggests an abandoned clave technology that she read about, and Clary suggests that Imogen Herondale (Mimi Kuzyk) might be willing to give it to them. Luke informs them that Ollie found a potential lead that they can use to find Jace.

Alec catches up to Magnus, who blames himself for helping Lilith. However, Alec assures him that Lilith would have got what she wanted with our without his help. Magnus promises to do whatever it takes to fix it, and they embrace. Alec tells him that he was wrong in their fight, but Magnus tells him that they both said things they didn’t mean.

She tells him she wants to be alone and she flashes back to her meeting Jordan when he was surfing on the beach. He asks her why she doesn’t surf and she tells him that she’s afraid of the ocean. Jordan comments on her knowledge of the ocean’s creatures, and they introduce themselves. He tells her that it’s now his mission to get her to surf, but she tells him it’s not going to happen. Lilith asks Jace to go to Alicante to retrieve Valentine’s flesh.

Luke asks Simon to accompany him on his mission to protect him with his mark. Simon clarifies that Luke wants him to be his bodyguard, but Luke insists it’s not the case. Luke shows him the suspected location of Lilith’s place, and Samantha bursts into the station demanding to know where Ollie is. Luke pulls her aside, and she slaps him as they talk. Herondale asks what’s going on, and Clary informs her of Jace’s possession. She asks how it happened, and Alec lies that they don’t know. Herondale warns them that this would be grounds for a kill order, but Alec tells her they have a potential solution. Herondale asks what she should tell the clave, and Clary suggests she doesn’t have to know.

Jordan flashes back to Maia being excited after riding her first wave. She tells him that she’d love to go to Australia with him, but he suggests Fiji. He tells her that he’s serious about them moving to Fiji, and details their potential life on the island. Maia comments that her parents wouldn’t miss her, and he tells her that she can’t live in the cloud of her brother’s death forever. She tells him that she loves him and they kiss. In the present, Jordan calls the Praetor and asks to be taken off Simon’s case despite knowing the consequences.

Herondale walks Alec, Clary, and Isabelle to the clave storage facility, telling them of the new security measures. Jia Penhallow (Francoise Yip) asks what they’re doing, and Clary tells her that Herondale was giving them a tour. Penhallow asks to join the tour, and Alec tells her that he wants to speak to her privately. Alec tells her he’s having second thoughts about the position the clave offered, but she tells him that she already offered the position to someone else.

Magnus attempts to find a cure for Jace’s possession with Catarina Loss (Sophia Walker), and gets frustrated by his struggles. Catarina tells him he shouldn’t blame himself, but he is unable to stop. She expresses her confidence in his ability to find a solution, but Magnus declares that there’s no solution. She reminds him that he’s the great Magnus Bane, and urges him not to give up.

Luke expresses his regret over telling Ollie about the shadow world, declaring that he is responsible if she doesn’t come home at the end of the day. He asks Simon if he’ll be able to control his mark, reminding him that Ollie is still human. Simon tells him about Jordan helping him, and Luke reveals that he was the one who called the Praetor for help. Luke tells him they were a great resource for him, but Simon angrily tells him that they sent Maia’s ex.

In a flashback, Maia asks Jordan about his scratches and insists that he should seek medical attention. Jordan insists he’ll be fine, and Maia informs him that she got accepted to Rutgers. He asks about their plans to go to Fiji and Maia tells him that it was just a fantasy. Jordan tells her that it was real to him and tells her they can make it a reality. Maia tells him that she wants to go to school, but he yells at her that she is not abandoning their dream. He apologizes, but claims that nothing is wrong with him. In the present, Bat Velasquez (Kevin Alves) checks on Maia, who insists she’s fine. She gets up, telling him she’s going to do something she should have done a long time ago.

Isabelle explains to Clary that she made the stolen device undetectable as they take it out of Alicante in a duffel bag. Clary suggests that Jace would be better off if he never met her, but Isabelle assures her that Jace became happier after he met her. Herondale finds Jace in her office, and he tells her he should have told her he was coming. He asks to go to the cemetery of the disgraced, but she tells him bereavement visits need to be preapproved. Jace attempts to guilt-trip her, and Herondale reaches for a blade. He stabs her, and she sends a fire message before she dies.

Alec receives Herondale’s fire-message, and informs Clary and Isabelle of Jace’s visit to the cemetery. Luke and Simon arrive in Lilith’s building, and Simon insists that he can’t let Luke out of his sight. He assures Simon he’ll be fine and the two of them split up to investigate. Two disciples approach Simon, and he warns them that he’s dangerous. Simon calls out to Luke, but Ollie stops Luke and tells him that Lilith doesn’t want him there.

Luke tries to get through to Ollie, telling her that Samantha wants her to come home. Ollie promises to kill him and Samantha to rid herself of everyone she loves. He tells her to fight it, but she tells him this is who she is. The disciples continue approaching Simon and are thrown back by the mark. Lilith screams as they disintegrate into dust, and Luke asks what happened. Jace digs up Valentine’s corpse, and Alec calls out to him. As Jace approaches, Clary and Isabelle use the device to trap him. They hear the guards approaching, and Clary portals them away to safety. Jace, Alec, and Isabelle arrive in Magnus’ loft, and Clary surrenders herself to the clave.

Maia approaches Jordan outside the restaurant, asking if he’s stalking her. She tells him that he has no right to ask about her relationships, as they’ve been broken up for weeks. He tells her he’s trying to make things right, and wants to get back together. She tells him to stay out of his life, and he gets angry and starts transforming. In a flashback, Jordan wakes up naked and sees that he’s attacked Maia. She asks what he is, but he runs away and leaves her lying on the ground.

Jordan leaves his apartment but finds Maia waiting on the other side. He tells her he’s leaving and gives her a note. Maia comes in and calls him a coward. He admits he deserves the insult, and explains how he became a werewolf. She asks why he didn’t tell her, but he claims he didn’t know how. Maia tells him she would have been there for him if he told her, but he tells her he wasn’t thinking straight. She accuses him of attacking her out of revenge, but he tells her he was jealous.

Jordan tells her that he didn’t mean to scratch her, but she tells him that she’s more upset about his abandonment. Jordan tells her he couldn’t face her and apologizes. He tells her that he joined the Praetor to right his wrong, but she tells him that she can’t give him her forgiveness. Jordan tells her that he asked to be taken off Simon’s case, but Maia orders him not to abandon Simon like he abandoned her.

Lilith questions how her disciples were disintegrated, and Ollie tells her it was a vampire. Jace taunts Alec and Isabelle about their attempt to contain him. Alec tells him they’re going to save him, but Jace sarcastically tells them good luck. He tells them that it’s only a matter of time before Lilith finds him, and Isabelle declares that they’ll fight Lilith. Jace calls her delusional and taunts her about her mundane boyfriend. Meanwhile, Clary is led to the clave’s prison.
