Shae Brock – Transparency
By: Lisa Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) I would say its organic POP with elements of guitars and pianos. I like to pull different sounds from other genres though, urban, some rock. So, really, I think it may be more of an eclectic pile of sounds than just one.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) I am forever a Madonna fan and Stevie Nicks is a goddess. I love music from the 70s/80s quite a bit but am a big fan of artists from today. I love LORDE and Julia Michaels.
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Transparency.”
A) It’s about being honest with someone and just saying what you really mean. Rather than covering up your emotions, just be clear…transparent.
Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) Aside from wanting to dance, I think it’s a pretty universal message/situation anyone can relate to. Wanting the need for clarity and honesty in a relationship.
Q) How did you come to work with Gucci Mane on the track?
A) I sent over the song asking if he’d be a feature and it ended up working out. It’s really surreal to me that he is on my song now. I was so inspired by working with him in the studio and cutting the video.
Q) Blaze Crawford produced the song. What was it like working with him?
A) Blaze is a fantastic producer. I love working with him. He always makes the song sound really amazing and big. We have done a lot of music together.
Q) What is your songwriting process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) It is always different for me. Sometimes lyrics come to me first or an idea… Sometimes I’m in a studio recording melodies to music. My favorite way currently is writing with an instrument.
Q) What can fans expect from a live Shae Brock performance?
A) Right now I am playing stripped down versions with drums and guitars. I am playing acoustic guitar while having another electric guitar playing and a drum pad. We are playing shows in more intimate venues. But soon we will be playing venues that demand a full instrumental production that sound more like the recording.
Q) Will there be a full EP or album coming in the near future?
A) I am working on a full EP coming early next year with producer Jim Greer up in Berkeley, California. Jim is awesome, and I’m really excited about these new songs.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) The Weeknd! He’s one of my favs!
Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?
A) The hardest question ever…Currently, I am listening to LANY and The Weeknd, of course.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) I really love being able to connect and communicate directly with people who love my work. Thank you to everyone who says hi!
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) My gosh, thank you a million, really…It means everything to me and I am so excited you enjoy the music. xo
