Shelley Winsor – Suicide Squad

Q) What are the current projects that you are working on?

A) I am working on a horror film that I am really excited about based on the “Legend of Bloody Mary.” I’m also working on a screenplay about my experiences here in LA as a Canadian girl/actress.

Q) What can you tell us about the premise for “Suicide Squad” and your character?

A) It’s about suicide, hmm, can I give anymore then that away? Well, a group of people with very diverse backgrounds meet up in a barn, in the middle of nowhere, with the intention of committing group suicide. Cynthia is the quintessential perfect girl, the prom queen. Why in the world would the prom queen want to commit suicide? I mean, everyone wants to be the prom queen, unless of course your name is Carrie. Cynthia has some underlying heavy issues that you will need to watch the movie to learn about.

Q) What made you want to be a part of this project?

A) I read the script and thought that it was powerful. It provokes thought about the world in which we live and how we relate to one another both good and bad. I also fell in love with Cynthia and knew I had to become her.

Q) How were you originally approached to be in the film?

A) Adam Hatley told me that he was producing a movie called “Suicide Squad” and wanted me to play the part of Cynthia. No auditioning! That’s what I like, auditions scare the crap out of me!

Q) Why do you think the premise will hook viewers? What is so unique and original about it?

A) I think the premise will hook viewers not only because it is a subject not often talked about, but the characters and the emotions are very universal. The raw honesty and emotion of each of the characters is moving and thought provoking. People will be able to relate to at least of these characters and may in turn question things about their own lives.

Q) Why should people take time to donate money to help with the funding of the film?

A) Well, the Hollywood box office has taken a big hit recently. And why? Because, they are putting out a lot of crap. Don’t get me wrong, I’m an actor and I love Hollywood, but they have been putting out a lot of crappy remakes and epics that are just not good. Audiences are becoming more sophisticated and want more out of their movies than special effects and big names. Independent films are plot and dialogue driven, touching on real human feelings and situations. This film does that, you get real people that make real connections. Supporting independent films is a win-win situation. A lot of influential films in the recent past have been independent ones.

Q) What have you been doing to prepare yourself for the role?

A) I’ve been researching suicide. I have set up a few meetings with people who have very seriously contemplated committing suicide. This will definitely help me get into the mind-set of Cynthia.

Q) What are some of your passions besides acting?

A) Shoes and shopping! I can never get enough of that!

Q) What is your latest obsession? Are you into any particular sport, book, music group or activity?

A) Okay, this is gonna sound nutty, but “Striptease aerobics.” I know, I know but it is really a lot of fun and great exercise. Plus my husband really likes it!

Q) With Thanksgiving around the corner, what are you most thankful for this year?

A) My husband. I know that probably sounds stupid, but I truly am thankful for him. He supports me completely in this crazy life of an actor that I lead. I love him to death.
