So You Think You Can Dance – S16 Ep. 8
By: Sammi Turano
Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance is getting down to the nitty gritty when it comes to the cuts. We got our final twenty last week and now it is time to narrow it down to the top ten.
This week, we pick the top five girls. The top ten girls are Mariah, Melany, Ashley, Anna, Madison, Sofia, Sumi, Naz, Sophie and Stephanie.
Lauriann Gibson, Dominic Sandoval, Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy judge, while Cat Deeley hosts.
First up is Mariah, who is partnered with Jonathan. Oksana choreographs their salsa routine. It is an amazing routine and she shows us why she belongs in the live shows. The lifts are quite impressive. The judges think she is effortless and on fire.
Melany and Fik Shun are up next with their hip hop routine for Randi and Hef. While she danced very well, it seemed to be lacking something. I can chalk it up to nerves, I suppose. However, the judges were less than impressed because they wanted more.
Jaci choreographs a contemporary routine for Ashley and Lex. It is pretty to watch, but lacks a bit of emotion. The judges agree, although Laurieann thinks she is having a breakthrough. Nigel worries about her arm strength.
Anna and Marco do a jazz routine choreographed by Ray. She seemed to have fun with it and made it her own. Laurieann gives her places to improve, but overall the judges like it.
Madison and Kiki do a cha cha cha choreographed by Emma and Sasha. It as an interesting dance and she did well, but the music threw me off a bit. The judges enjoyed it though and love her confidence.
Sofia and Marco do a jazz routine choreographed by Spencer. It had everything, the attitude, the moves and the power needed for a wonderful routine. Nigel wanted a bit more, as did Dominic. The ladies seemed to like it.
Sumi and Lex do a contemporary routine choreographed by Talia. It is a pretty routine, but seems to be missing the emotion needed. The judges are less than impressed and thinks she needs more work.
Luther choreographs a hip hop routine for Nazz and Fik Shun. It had sass, power and attitude. It actually reminded me of that last routine Julia Stiles did in Save The Last Dance. The judges are blown away and congratulate her on a job well done.
Sophie and Kiki do a cha cha cha choreographed by Sharna. It was good, but it is obvious she was thinking too much and nervous. The judges sense this and point it out to her.
Stephanie and Robert do a contemporary routine choreographed by Mandy. WOW. That’s as by far the best routine of the night and left me with my jaw on them floor the entire time. The judges give her places to improve, but overall seemed to enjoy it.
The top 5 girls:
Mariah
Stephanie
Anna
Sophie
Madison
