Steve Byers – Making a Splash

Q.  What are some of the recent projects that you’ve been working on?

A.  Just before starting up again with “Falcon Beach” I did a horror film called Left for Dead.  That was with myself and Danielle Harris and Shawn Roberts.  Shawn Roberts actually worked on our show last year as well.  That was cool, it was kind of like a reunion.

Q.  For those unfamiliar with the show, what can you tell us about the premise and about your character?

A.  Well, the premise of the show is basically about a small town called Falcon Beach.  There are a bunch of people who come up in the summer months who try and enjoy it for the short summer we have.  Then you have the local people who live there and stay all year round.  They are usually catering to the whims of those that do come in.  People end up having new relationships and the good and bad that come along with it.  Some relationships, some bad, some romantic, but that’s it.  My character is Jason Tanner and he’s one of the local boys there who runs the marina with his mother.  He’s still trying to figure out what he wants out of life and I think a lot of younger people will be able to relate to that.  He’s trying to figure out what his life holds for him and what he wants out of it.  In the meantime, when he can’t figure that out, he wakeboards and tries to enjoy life the best he can.

Q.  What originally made you want to be a part of the show?

A.  I had been given the script and like a lot of people here, pretty much went through the process and met with some of the people involved.  I was immediately very enamored with the idea of coming out here and enjoying the sun and the wicked environment we get to do it in.  Also, working with a great group of people.

Q.  What changes can viewers expect from the show with season two?

A.  There are a lot of relationships that hit some rocky points.  Inevitably, like I said about the summer rush, you have a bunch of new people coming in to throw some wrenches into relationships that we think were pretty solid.  There are some more nefarious events that take place.  There is a little darker side of Falcon Beach that comes out.  That was exciting to do for all of us!

Q.  Will there be any changes with your character?

A.  For my character in particular I will say, without giving too much away, that he really explores his relationship with his father a lot more.  His father actually passed away when he was about fourteen and so he has been living the life of someone who has a mother who is raising him on her own.  It makes her a strong person and in the long run Jason has to learn how to be somewhat of a responsible man while still trying to be a kid.

Q.  What do you think it is about “Falcon Beach” that continues to grip viewers?

A.  I would love to be able to say that it is the fact that the show is based around character that everybody can relate to in some way or another. Certainly everybody would like to have a place like Falcon Beach where they can go and spend their summers.  At the same time, they also have those sort of nostalgic relationships to look back and reminisce about.  Not to mention, there are some pretty good looking girls on the show that will hopefully bring back the male audience as well.

Q.  Do you have a most memorable moment from filming?

A.  I think that some of the most memorable moments have been wakeboarding with Jennifer Kydd was definitely on the top of the list.  We both got to learn together and it was a blast!  We had a really great time and it was like going up to someone’s cottage or cabin and just having fun.  That definitely is in the top!

Q.  What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

A.  When I do have spare time I’m pretty much a geek when it comes to what I like to do.  I am in love with video games, believe it or not.  I love to play video games and take my mind off of things.  I have actually really started to enjoy wakeboarding.  The first time this year that I ended up wakeboarding was at a friend’s cottage.  That has nothing to do with the show, that’s become a little more part of my life.

Q.  Do you have a latest obsession?  Are you into any particular book, music group or activity?

A.  Well, I just gotten into a bunch of new bands in the last little bit.  I am a really big fan of Never Ending White Light and a Scottish band called Snow Patrol.  They are just absolutely wicked and I can’t get enough of them yet.  In terms of literature, I’d like to say I was more of a reader than I am.  But, unfortunately my reading time tends to get taken up by Xbox 360.  That might explain my lack of vocabulary!

Q.  What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?

A.  I would just like to say thank you so much for watching.  It makes me feel really good to know that anybody would want to watch anything I did.  It pleases me to no end that more and more people are watching the show.  Thank you very much, that’s what I’d like to say.
