Supergirl – Trinity
By: Paige Zinaman
The episode opens to Lena (Katie McGrath) looking at a piece of glass in her lab after Reign (Odette Annable) took off immediately followed by Lena at the DEO talking to Kara (Melissa Benoist), Alex (Chyler Leigh), J’onn (David Harewood), Imra (Amy Jackson), Brainy (Jesse Rath) and Mon-El (Chris Wood) and telling them what she was doing with Sam and why she had her locked away for three weeks. She tells the team that she discovered that Sam and Reign were one and the same and when asked why she never told them she made it very clear that she does not work for them and that she didn’t sign a contract. Lena kept Sam/Reign contained and reveals that Lex had vaults. When she took over L-Corp she inherited all of it and that it included Kryptonite which she used to contain Reign.
At the Sand Fortress, we see Reign, Pestilence (Angela Zhou) and Purity (Krys Marshall) meet with the Dark Kryptonian (Anjali Jay). She tells them that they must be one and that Sam and Julia cannot last much longer now that the three of them are together. Sam, meanwhile, wakes up in the woods seeing Grace laying dead beside her and Julia sitting scared next to her. Julia talks to Sam while seeing her past kill come back to haunt her. Sam tells Julia that they need to leave because it’s not safe there and when Julia says that there’s no place to go. Sam believes there might be and they take off. Over at the DEO, Lena calls James (Mehcad Brooks) and tells him everything that has been going on. Supergirl confronts Lena about having her back this whole time when the world was against her and asks if she has any more Kryptonite. Lena tells her no and that she used the last of it. As they are talking, Supergirl starts to hear a noise as Lena asks if she’s alright Supergirl passes out and wakes up in the same place Sam and Julia are. When she wakes up Alex is there with Lena watching over her asking her what happened.
Alex, Lena and Supergirl are walking to the command center talking about what happened when Alex tells her she should be in the med bay. Supergirl insists she’s fine and that what happened it bigger than technology. When Lena tells her to not say magic Supergirl says that it’s dark magic. Supergirl tells them about the Book of Rao and how there is no apocalypse, but there are parables about witches who do rituals to destroy the world. Lena says that whatever the World Killers are doing is causing the eclipse and that people can’t live without the sun as Alex adds that not many things can, including Supergirl. When they come up with the plan to send Supergirl back into the Kryptonian Valley they go see Brainy who talks them to the Legion ship. As they go to leave Lena follows them and tells them that she’s going with them telling Supergirl she knows Sam. Alex agrees with Lena that with Supergirl powers questionable in the Valley it’s better to have her come along. Sam and Julia reach the fortress inside and Sam talks to Julia as she breaks, Sam draws her back and makes her fight Purity, forcing her to tell her who she is. Sam tells Julia to hum her favorite song and that her daughter does that when she’s scared. Sam starts panicking though when she can’t remember Ruby’s (Emma Tremblay) name and finally says her name out loud. She then tosses Julia a rock and tells her to write down what she remembers.
Kara goes to see James and tells him that Lena has Kryptonite. James asserts that he already knows. Kara, who is clearly upset, makes James jump to Lena’s defense and says to Kara that Lena is not Lex. Kara tells James that she needs Guardian to find out if there is any Kryptonite left and James points out that she’s asking him to betray someone he really cares about. Kara says she really cares about Lena, too. At the Legion ship Alex asks why Lena never came to her about Sam and Lena points out it is the same reason Alex never told her she’s DEO. This is when the realization hit that Lena knew all along. Supergirl arrives and pulls Mon-El to the side and makes him promise to pull Lena and Alex out if things go wrong. She wants him to leave her in until she finishes the mission. Brainy puts the girls under and they wake up in the Kryptonian Valley.
Alex is breaking sticks apart and sharping them as Kara and Lena look around. They turn and watch as Lena approaches them when Lena asks if the sticks are for Sam and Julia. Alex tells her that they are for whatever are around when Lena mumbles that they don’t know if anything can be injured. Alex pokes her in the stomach with one of the sticks, much to Alex’s amusement, as she tells them they are good and hands them each a stick. Kara takes the stick and cuts her hand showing them that she is without her powers. When they find Grace they take off looking for Sam and Julia. Back on the ship Mon-El and J’onn are watching over the girls. Mon-El walks out and J’onn follows him. He and J’onn have a talk about how he can’t do anything for Kara and about how he can’t hurt his wife. So, he asks J’onn what he can do. J’onn tells him there is nothing he can do. Winn (Jeremy Jordan) and Guardian are at the L-Corp labs checking for Kryptonite. Back in the Valley, Kara complains to Alex about how horrible it is for humans to exercise when Kara mentions Kryptonite poisoning. Lena tells her there is too much at stake for Supergirl to still be mad at her. They talk when Lena tells them that she would never use Kryptonite on Supergirl and that Alex should know that. Their conversation is cut short when a Kryptonian Demon shows up causing them to run to the entrance Alex saw before time runs out.
Once inside the fortress, they follow whimpers and find Julia and Sam. They run to Sam who is muttering about killing someone. James and Winn find the vault as Winn tells him to set the device on the door and step back because the vault will open. James lies to Winn and doesn’t open the door. He explains to Winn that Lena had no more Kryptonite. Sam sees Lena, Alex and Supergirl thinking she killed them. They try to get through to her that they are not dead as Supergirl tries to get to listen. Kara gets dizzy and almost passes out as Alex grabs her. They tell Sam to think of Ruby causing her to switch places with Reign. Reign takes Lena by the throat telling Kara if she takes another step she’ll break her neck. Supergirl pleads with Reign to take her instead when Reign tells her she is weak compared to her. Sam finds a crystal and inserts it into the podium, resulting in a spike where Imra and Winn can trace them. Mon-El tells Brainy to pull them out right as Reign is about to kill Lena. Sam, however, is confronted by the Dark Kryptonian and pulls the crystal out. When Pestilence wakes she slaps Sam, bringing Reign back who then punches her. Reign tells them they are coming when it’s shown that the Legion ship is already there. J’onn, Supergirl and Mon-El leave to go as Winn holds Alex back, giving her a suit of her very own with magnets that took Brainy’s Legion ring upsetting him. She then gives Alex another gun. The team confront the World Killers as Purity uses her siren calls to damage the ship. Thankfully, Lena takes control of the ship and gets it working again, much to Brainy and Winn’s surprise. Reign and Supergirl battle it out again when Alex comes to her defense with the new gun from Winn. Imra goes head to head with Pestilence as Mon-El steps in causing the husband and wife duo to work together. Alex stops Purity from going after J’onn and tells Julia she has to rise up and help them. When Supergirl loses her powers, Alex watches as Reign kicks around her sister and grabs at the gun. Reign takes Alex by the neck and tosses her to the side.
Supergirl pleads to Julia to help them, which works as Julia takes on Reign only to have Pestilence come up behind her and stab her. Julia uses her siren call to take out Pestilence, which results in the death of Julia and Pestilence only to have Reign absorb their powers. They all get back on the ship and take off right as the fortress collapses. Back at the DEO, Imra talks with Mon-El as she hugs him and tells him that the future, their family, their friends and her sister are all saved and that they can go home now. When Imra leaves, Mon-El pulls out the necklace Kara gave him. Supergirl comes flying in and finally sees Alex’s new suit as they discuss how she’s wanted one, but the director kept saying no. Winn tells Kara that there was no more Kryptonite and that Lena was telling the truth. Kara goes to talk to Lena and tells her that she’s sorry and as far as she is considered they are on a clean slate where they shake it off and smile. Later that night Lena goes to James and he tells her that he’s Guardian and that he broke into her lab. He says that Supergirl asked him to and Lena tells him that the Kryptonite didn’t belong to Lex. She made it.
