Take Two – One to the Heart
By: Gladys Luna
Sam (Rachel Bilson) and Eddie (Eddie Cibrian) burst the door of the man’s apartment up while kissing each other desperately getting themselves lost inside the man’s room. The next morning both are still surprised of what happened and while they try to make sense of it, a knock at the door can be heard. Eddie goes to see who it is and finds Christine (Aliyah O’Brien) standing there as it seems that Eddie had forgotten about their morning workout. He tries to explain the reason why he is not ready when she sees Sam. Meanwhile, Sam is getting dressed. She immediately understands what’s happening and agrees to meet him later that day. He goes back inside and informs Sam that Christine knows about them and now they try to figure out how not to get weird about each other and promise they won’t let their dynamic to change, but as far as it can be seen it has already happened.
Eddie meets with Christine at the gym and she helps him understand that his feelings towards Sam had been going on for months now. Sam meets with Sydney (Heather Doerksen) and the woman manages to figure out that Sam has slept with Eddie. She also lets Sam know that there are two good projects that she can audition for and Sam agrees. She gets a text from Monica (Alice Lee) saying that they have a new case to take care of and she needs to go to the office right away.
Sam and Eddie meet Monica and Berto (Xavier de Guzman) at the office and the other two immediately figure out what had happened between the PI’s as they both walk in there smiling and looking all happy. A few minutes later, the duo meet Emily Speer (Emily Rose), a woman who claims that had been conned by her fiancée. She explains that one day he disappeared taking with him all of her savings; the only thing he left behind was a quite expensive watch that she gives to Sam and Eddie in order to help them find him. Berto does research about the watch and finds that it was not registered under Emily’s fiancée name and he had lied about it. Eddie decides to take the object to Hieronymus ‘Harry’ Finch (Steve Weller) a watch expert. He lets them know that the watch is part of another seventeen bought by a very prestigious investing-banking firm that gave them away as thank you gifts for their Mergers and Acquisition team. And even though most of the members live in New York, one of them is currently living in LA and they recognize them as Mitch Rhoads (Lochlyn Munro). Sam and Eddie go to meet him and he confesses that he lost his watch to a man when he has playing at the Starland game. Sam uses her contacts and finds out the place where the next game will be held and plans to get there to lure Emily’s fiancée to her and get the woman’s money back.
Sam goes to the poker game and immediately draws everybody’s attentions, especially Emily’s fiancée that introduces himself as Jack Johnston (Matthew MacCaull). They sit next to each other to play and as the night goes by Sam keeps winning and winning. She is suddenly frozen on her spot when she sees Deacon (Brian Markinson) walking in and they share a brief stare. She excuses herself and walks away while informing Eddie about it. He suggests for her to get out of the place, but it is too late as Deacon is already making a bee line towards her. He confronts her, but at the same time assures her that he won’t give away that she is there and walks away. Sam goes back to her game and asks Jack to go with her to her room and he follows. Once they get there, Eddie pushes him and points a gun at him while the man looks surprised to see Emily standing there as well. Eddie takes his wallet and gives it to Sam who manages to find a lot of different fake ID’s as well as a key. When the man sees that Sam has found it he agrees to make a deal with them, but before he can say anything else somebody shoots him from outside the window.
The cops arrive to the crime scene, but Eddie hides from them the key they found in the man’s wallet. The duo takes said key to Berto and together they find out that it belongs to a locker located in La Brea Wine Storage. Eddie and Sam go search the place and find a bag with a lot of jewelry that it seems to be from other people as well as a lot of money and more fake ID’s.
After Sam and Eddie leave the building, two men show up and beat Eddie to the ground; stealing the duffel bag from them. The girl takes Eddie to his apartment where she takes care of him and once again, they end up sleeping together. The man wakes up to an empty bed and a note where Sam informs him that she is going to her audition. Right that moment, Christine calls him and asks him to meet her at the morgue. In the meantime, Sam does her audition so well that at the end they offer her to do the part.
At the morgue, Christine and Mick (Jordan Gavaris) inform Eddie that the same gun that killed Emily’s fiancée was the one that killed Marnie Stahr (Brittany Mitchell), a woman that died right under Eddie’s watch. He is upset about the whole new discovery when he goes back to the office and meets Sam. He explains to her that three years ago he was in charge of protecting Marnie since she was a human rights lawyer that had seemed to piss off the wrong kind of people and kept getting death threats. He kept her hidden in a hotel room until she got tired and asked him to let her out to take a walk. He was there with her getting an ice cream when it happened; suddenly a shot came out of nowhere and killed her. Sam can tell by the tone of his voice and the sadness reflected in his eyes that she was more than a client to him but assures him that going after the guys that killed her may be dangerous. He confesses that he has been waiting for months to find a single lead and there is no way he will be letting this opportunity slip away from him. Sam insists that Deacon might be behind the whole thing and it might just lure him into a trap. So, she asks Eddie to let the police take the matter on their hands, but he gets mad at her as he believes she doesn’t want to support him. He says that if she is not with him, then he doesn’t want her anywhere around. Sam leaves the office and Monica follows her. Eddie leaves after and Berto yells at him that he is wrong by pushing her away since he has been better since she walked into his life. Eddie doesn’t seem to be listening to anybody so instead he asks him if he had the chance to check on the traffic footage of the night he was jumped. Berto lets him know that the man that beat him is Jimmy Dante (Al Sapienza) who is part of the mob, but Eddie doesn’t seem to care at all.
Sam and Monica pay a visit to Emily and ask her how is that she managed to know about her and Eddie and she said that a friend of her recommended them and it turns out that said friend is no other than Deacon’s sister.
Eddie finds Jimmy and takes him to an isolated place where he can interrogate him; right there. He asks him to give him the name of the shooter that killed Marnie, but he said that the man doesn’t belong to his family. He explains how they hire him to kill Jessup Lance (who also goes by Jack Johnston) since he had been playing with one of the women of his family, but they had nothing to do with Marnie’s death. He confesses that the shooter’s name is Karl Kahn (Toby Levins) and also confirms where to find him. Eddie waits for Kahn to leave his apartment in order to enter the place where he can see all of his gear, guns and a photo album that it contains the pictures of all of the people he had killed – Marnie included. Suddenly, the door opens revealing Kahn’s figure in there who, as soon as his eyes meet Eddie’s, starts to run away. Eddie follows him until he manages to make him stumble and starts to punch him while he is laying on the floor. He then lifts him up and pushes him against a car and points a gun at him. That is when Christine appears and stops him from killing him. Eddie tells her that he is the one he’s been looking for and that all the evidence can be found at his apartment. That’s when an explosion can be heard reducing all the evidence to ashes. Later that day, Christine interrogates the man, but he just won’t tell a thing and as there is no evidence against him, she has to let him go. Eddie loses his temper and tries to suffocate Kahn but once again is stopped from doing it. He decides to take a walk instead and leaves in a haste. As Sam is worried that he just took off like that, she goes to his apartment and waits until he finally arrives. They try to talk about their feelings towards each other and figure out in which stage they are in. Finally, Sam confesses that she got the part and if she agrees to do it she can’t just do both jobs.
In the meantime, Christine and Mick arrive to a crime scene where Kahn’s dead body can be seen laying on the ground. Suddenly, Lieutenant Hardin (Dean McKenzie) shows up and tells her that there is a footage of the murder she needs to see. In it a man can be seen killing Kahn from a very close range then leaving in a vehicle whose license plate is the same as Eddie’s.
Eddie is at his apartment caressing Sam´s hair as she is resting on his lap since the girl has fallen asleep on the couch. He gets a phone call from Deacon who teases him while he can be seen at Eddie’s office, hiding a gun in one of his book shelves. He tells him that right at this point, he has all that he wants. When the call ends, there is a loud bang at the man’s door announcing that LAPD is out there. Sam wakes up scared and when Eddie opens the door two cops handcuff him immediately while Christine sadly says “Eddie Valetik, you’re under arrest for the murder of Karl Kahn.”
What a way to bring the season to an end! Hope you had enjoyed this ride as much as me and if we get lucky, we may be seeing more of “Take Two” next year! ¡Hasta la próxima!
