The Flash – Cause and XS

Cisco (Carlos Valdes) has figured out the meta-cure, but when he returns to tell the team he informs them that it will take 29 days in order for it to be ready to use. Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) calculates some things and instead of it taking that long Sherloque (Tom Cavanagh) comes up with the idea for Barry (Grant Gustin) to run into the speedforce to get it to “cook” for 1 hour and then they will be able to use the cure.

 

Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) tries to go with Barry because she’s afraid that she will mess something up if she’s left on her own. Barry persuades her to stay and let him go alone. When she leaves to go back to the team Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) walks in looking for Cisco. Nora huffs as she walks to the desk, so Sherloque and Iris (Candice Patton) look at her asking what’s wrong but she tells them nothing.

 

Ralph has brought The Book of Ralph to help Cisco with his date with Kamilla (Victoria Park). Sherloque and Caitlin silently communicate that they need to go, so when Cisco asks them to help him out of it they make up excuses to leave. He tries to get Iris, but she tells him she has an article to write. Now Nora is left as Ralph starts in on his chapters. Nora tries to speed the process along, but Ralph continues with his suggestions. He has cyberstalked Kamilla and even when he leaves Cisco can’t help but to look at the pictures of the past boyfriends Kamilla has had. He takes the pictures with him as he leaves.

 

Iris is working on her article at the office when she hears something outside. She looks out the window and sees Cicada’s (Chris Klein) shadow in the office door. She turns to grab her phone and alert the team, but she gets hit on the back of the head before she can get away.

 

Cisco enters his date at Jitters dressed in a suit. He tells Kamilla he got held up at a meeting. Kamilla mentions she would have dressed up more had she known and that he was going to be wearing a suit. She makes a comment about him having to wear a suit to a lab and he tries to talk his way out of what he told her at the bar. She asks if he makes money off of other people’s inventions and tells her that he does with his company is Ramon Industries. She she sarcastically says that’s humble naming a company after yourself and he gets up to get them drinks to escape the awkwardness.

 

Cicada has Iris’ hands tied on a rooftop. He tells her he did his research and he knows she works with The Flash. He tells her that he’s going to defeat them tonight.

 

Cisco and Kamilla’s drinks arrive, but Cisco gets the alert from Iris. He tells Kamilla that he has to go for work and asks for a do-over. Kamilla isn’t happy at all so she leaves without a response.

 

The alert comes into the lab Nora and Killer Frost race to the rooftop for Iris. Before they get there Cicada throws the dagger into the city. When the dagger boomerangs back it flies into Killer Frost’s back and kills her. Nora yells out and runs off back in time to when Ralph asked her about Cisco in the hallway.

 

She rushes in and everything replays the exact same events except this time she decides to stop her mom from going to the office to work on her article. She catches Iris in the hallway and persuades her to write the article in the lounge instead of at her office. Nora tells Iris she’ll make her a coffee.

 

Ralph is working at his office across from Iris’ when Cicada shows up to her office. He uses his powers, thus making Cicada’s dagger light up. Cicada enters Ralph’s office and when Ralph gets up from picking up a broken bottle, he hits him in the back of the head.

 

Cisco enters his date with Kamilla. This time he is dressed in a sporty look. Kamilla asks him if he works out a lot and tries to steer the conversation. But Cisco,over exaggerates about the number of his visits to the gym and Kamilla laughs saying she thought she was finally meeting a guy who was more interested in flexing his brain than his muscles. Cisco escapes to get drinks for them.

 

Cicada has Ralph on the rooftop and repeats what he said to Iris in the previous timeline. When we go back to Cisco and Kamilla’s date, Cisco vibes the original timeline, but can’t make out what it means. The date ends badly like before.  

 

The lab is alerted after Nora finishes making Iris her coffee. She gets Caitlin and rushes to the rooftop but this time she has Killer Frost ducks down to avoid the dagger. Instead of it hitting her it flies into Ralph’s back and kills him. She quickly rushes back to the moment she meets Ralph in the hallway and says they have another chance at this.

 

Nora runs to write things down in her journal like before. Everything is playing out the same and she persuades her mom to write the article at STAR Lab again by saying it’s important for the team leader to stay until her dad gets back. Nora interrupts Ralph talking to Cisco and gets him to join her and Iris in the lounge for coffee and brownies.

 

Cisco’s vibes the previous timeline’s date with Kamilla before he leaves for his date. Sherloque asks if he’s alright and then leaves shortly after. He goes to Iris’ office to figure out why Nora didn’t want Iris there. He determines that it is because she’s been time traveling. He gets knocked out by Cicada in the next second.

 

Cisco arrives to his date and this time he is dressed as an Instagram model and tells her that he’s an aspiring social media influencer. When he hands her his card, he vibes one of the dates again. She starts her line about assuming he was a scientist and he says what she’s about to say. She grabs the drinks. Meanwhile, Nora has just finished making coffees for Iris and Ralph. Before Cisco can start drinking his coffee, he feels that something is wrong and tells Kamilla that he has to go. His phone buzzes right after and he leaves without even asking if they can do it over sometime.

 

When the alert goes off at the lab Nora rushes to save Sherloque without Killer Frost. Before she makes it there Vibe arrives first and the dagger flies into his back. Nora races back in time– distressed because she can’t go back any further.

 

Nora rushes in and says she’s fine before Sherloque gets a chance to ask. She immediately starts grabbing everyone and flashing them into the lounge. She tells them all to stay there with the excuse that she doesn’t want things to go wrong. Everyone begins to disagree when Cisco gets a vibe of some of the previous timelines. After a brief moment Nora tells them that they have no other choice but to stay there.

 

Cicada goes to Iris’ office and since no one is there. He sees the photo on Iris’ side table of Joe, Cecile and Jenna. Instead of Cisco showing up to his date, he texts Kamilla that he can’t make it. The team is in the lounge and just as the clock turns Nora lets out a breath of relief, but Cecile’s alert starts blaring in the lab. Nora rushes down to the rooftop, but the dagger kills Cecile before she can even see it move. She runs back with all the timelines flashing around her. Ralph walks up on her and she tells him that she can’t protect them because she doesn’t know how to. She thinks her dad can help, but she can’t enter the speedforce to get to him. She walks into the room and Iris turns around and asks, “You’re reversing time aren’t you?” She admits to it and tells them that she can’t fix it.

 

Iris asks if all of them die and Nora starts to explain what happens. A dazed Cicsco says he thought he was just having deja vu. He tells them about him seeing his date with Kamilla. They ask how many times its happened and Nora admits that she’s reversed the past 52 times. They try to bring up different ways, but Nora tells them that nothing works and leaves.

 

Cisco follows her and tells her about how he’s died before and everything eventually worked out. Nora tells him that she’s scared they won’t be able to fix this and someone will die. He tells her that sometimes they fail because all they’re worried about is not failing. He realizes that’s what he was doing with his date with Kamilla. He understands he just needs to be himself. She tells him about her taking notes in her journal every time she went back so they know every move. So now they need to figure how to make it right. They decide that they’re going to help her slow down time in order for them to take down Cicada.

 

Cicada is on the rooftop and this time Iris is there waiting for him. She says everything he told her in the other timeline. She pressed her distress signal and the whole team shows up with everyone using their powers at once for the plan. Before the dagger can stab Ralph we see Nora run in and reverse the time, sending the dagger back to Cicada. Nora pushes him into it and it stabs him in the shoulder. He flies off.

 

Cicada has disappeared again. Caitlin thanks Nora for saving all of them and they try to get Cisco to go on his date with Kamilla now. He runs to his date and Barry flashes in with a cooked cure. Everyone just stares at him so he asks what did he miss.

 

Cisco shows up to his date being just himself. He tells Kamilla about how he may have created something that could change a lot of peoples’ lives. This time he ordered the drinks ahead of time and gets a second chance at this date.

 

Barry and Nora are in the lounge discussing her 52 trips back in time. He tells her that there are consequences to time travel that she doesn’t understand. He explains that no matter how many times she tries to fix something that she’s purposely changed it’s never going to go back to exactly how it was meant to be. Everything worked out this time, but that will not always be true. It’s impossible to know what changes will happen.

 

We see Sherloque looking at the screen that he’s been investigating Nora on and apparently he’s finally cracked the code.

 

Nora races to the future where Thawne (Tom Cavanagh) says he is the only speedster who knows what he is doing and Nora needs to follow his instructions to defeat Cicada and save Barry.
