The Flash – Godspeed
By: Malasha Parker
Nora’s (Jessica Kennedy Parker) still sitting in the cell while the team is still in the cortex discussing the shocking events. Iris (Candice Patton) is trying to convince Barry (Grant Gustin) that Nora’s their daughter so maybe they shouldn’t move so quickly, but Barry is just focused on the fact that Nora has been lying to them. He starts to get louder, but Iris mentions that they don’t know the reason Nora is working with Thawne (Tom Cavanagh). Sherloque (Tom Cavanagh) comments that maybe that isn’t the question they should be asking, but Iris thinks he’s done enough already. He tells her that she’s mad at the wrong person, so they ask how long he’s suspected Nora. He tells them he’s suspected her since he arrived and they’re visibly upset. He says he didn’t want to come to them unless he had all the facts and then he dismisses himself from the group. Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) tells Barry and Iris that she doesn’t think Nora did anything maliciously. They realize that they have the journal so they decide to read it in order for them to find out how she came to work with Thawne.
We go to 2049. Nora is rushing to a crime scene. She gets there while Detective Curtis (Ese Atawo) is looking for her. They’re trying to figure out what happened with a meta crime because, again, nobody saw who did it. Nora finds two things that have been stolen and she discovers a camera that releases a chemical. The entire thing happened without the suspect getting hit with anything or seen.
Nora thinks its a speedster and she tells her colleague and friend Lia (Kathryn Gallagher). She isn’t so keen on it being a speedster that committed the crime because there hasn’t been a speedster since the crisis Iris wrote about in her article. Nora tells her she needs to start believing in the “highly unlikely,” but Lia tells her maybe she should stop being so obsessive about speedsters and being like her father and continuing to investigate the Cicada case. As they go through the video footage, they see white lightning and a missing canister. Now they need to figure out why the speedster stole chemicals.
Nora is at The Flash Museum looking at all of the speedster bios. She sees that there was never a speedster with white lightning. While she’s there her mother calls. Nora finally calls her back and Iris immediately starts asking questions about what she’s doing and why she’s at the museum. She was just calling to tell Nora about her job in Star City and that she’ll be returning soon. She hangs up when she gets a call from Lia about the stolen chemicals.
They go to Ollins Laboratory where an old teacher of Lia’s tells them about how the chemicals can work together. Nora and Lia start to leave, but they see a flash of lightning go by them and when they run in they see the doctor on the ground and Godspeed (Kindall Charters) standing over him. Before they can both leave the room Godspeed blasts Nora with lightning and she goes flying into a shelf. Godspeed flashes off and Lia runs back to help Nora. When she goes to touch Nora, her hand gets burned and Nora lays with purple and yellow lightning coursing through her.
Lia’s playing music to wake Nora from her shock. Nora wakes up and Lia tells her about everything that happened while she was unconscious. Nora tells her she feels fine even after being hit with lightning. Lia tells Nora that she called her mom. Nora says she doesn’t want Iris to worry, so Lia tells her that’s why she didn’t tell her what the paramedics found after restarting Nora’s heart. She gives her the device they found in a little tube, but while Lia is getting excited about Nora getting struck by lightning from a speedster Nora goes into flashmode and flies out of the hospital into the back of a van. She’s confused. Back at the lab she and Nora are testing out her powers by catching Flash bobbleheads. Nora starts to worry about how she’ll tell her mom and she decides that she won’t say anything about what is happening. They realize that the way Nora became a speedster is the same as The Flash. They get an alert about a heist and Nora runs down to try and “guard” Central City.
She gets to the heist already in progress and accidentally knocks down one of the police officers instead of the criminals. Her powers then get out of her control and she starts speeding into all of the police cars, causing more damage than good.
Back in the lab Lia and Nora discuss what happen. Nora feels horrible because of how bad she screwed up, but Lia cheers her up by looking at the brighter side of things. Nora tells her the only way CCPD will be able to catch Godspeed is if they start thinking like one. She decides to go visit Reverse Flash.
The guard tells Nora no one has visited him in 15 years. She goes to talk to him alone. She introduces herself to Eobard and he tells her to come closer. He says there is nothing to be afraid of and because no matter what he couldn’t hurt her. She asks him how he ended up in Iron Heights. She tells him that all the files on him are sealed and there is almost nothing about him in The Flash Museum. She asks him how he was defeated, but he suspects her of lying when she tells him it’s because of a case that she wants to know this information. He deduces from her appearance she’s a speedster. The guard tells Nora her time is up. She leaves and the guard flips a switch that sends multiple lightning strikes to the Reverse Flash’s body as Nora watches from the window.
Nora tells Lia that someone figured out she had powers, but they wouldn’t tell her anything about them. She notices Lia’s reaction and asks her what wrong. Lia tells her that she researched the metal fragment and sees that it’s a chip made by S.T.A.R. Labs twenty-five years ago that dampens her speed. She tells her that it looks like she’s always had her powers. Nora starts to freak out, but realizes that it was her mom that put the power dampening chip inside her.
The girls go to Jitters to talk more. Nora can’t believe she could keep this from her and wonders what else she kept from her. Nora comments about having at least one person she can still trust in her life– referring to Lia. Then, she has an epiphany about a coffee comment Lia made and realizes that the place Godspeed is storing the chemicals is at Stagg Industries.
They get to the building and quickly find the canister. Godspeed comes in telling them that the canister is his. Nora tries to distract him by leading him away with her speed, but he manages go knock her down and flash to Lia instead. Before Nora can get up he slices his hand through Lia, killing her.
They’ve finished this section of Nora’s journal in the present and realize that the one person Nora trusted died. Iris comments that Nora was alone because she wasn’t there for her and Iris decides that they should give her a second chance just like Nora gave her. She goes to the cell and releases Nora, telling her to not make her regret it.
Iris and Nora walk back into the cortex so that Nora can explain herself to the team. They flash back into Nora’s story. Nora is sitting at home when Iris comes through the door. She tells Nora she heard the news about Lia and how she understands losing someone you love. Nora sits without saying a word. When Iris starts to says she wanted to check if she’s okay, Nora gets up and says that she guesses “lightning doesn’t hurt as much if you already have it coursing through your veins.” She pulls out the dampening chip and asks Iris if it looks familiar while also flashing to stand right before her. She tells her what she knows and Iris admits to it. She tells Nora that everyone that she loves knows and that she was just trying to protect her. Iris didn’t want to risk losing her after losing so much already, but Nora tells Iris that she lost her too.
Nora flashes to the lab. Detective Curtis walks into the room to remind her if she needs time off she understands. Nora tells her that they need to get the man that killed Lia. They have an I.D. on the man and Nora realizes that she saw him at the flash museum. He was testing tachyon stimulants on coma patients.
Nora goes to The Flash Museum and realizes that Godspeed’s lightning turned blue like Zoom’s. The museum display tells her that Velocity 9 is the name of the drug used to make that lightning that was used on the speedsters. She concludes that Godspeed is also trying to make the same drug, but one that will last forever.
Nora goes back to Reverse Flash and asks him how to stop a speedster. She tries to set up a plan for him to help her stop Godspeed, but he gets upset and yells for the guard. She starts to get hysterical and tells him what Godspeed did to her friend. As she’s leaving Eobard says her name, stopping her in her tracks.
Nora gets to the innovation lab at CCU with Eobard talking her through what to do via comms. He tells her how to short out the scanner circuits. He explains to look for the brightest room for the biometric converter that she needs to keep from Godspeed. Godspeed shows up and before she can escape he flashes at her but she’s able to get a bracelet on him to stop his powers. It works, but Godspeed shoots himself with more V9 and Eobard tells Nora to run. Godspeed chases her through the streets of Central City so Thawne tells her to run through a wall so that she can escape Godspeed. She doesn’t think she can do it, so Thawne tries to give her a play-by-play on how to feel her way through it. She flashes off to the side instead and escapes him. Thawne gets upset and says that if she won’t listen to him he’s done, but Nora promises to listen from now on. He tells her to run up the side of the building of Central City Citizen Media to get to their satellites and use them to neutralize the V9 in Godspeed. She speeds towards the building and begins to circle around it with Godspeed chasing after her. Godspeed gets hit with the blast from the satellites and crashes down on the CCC media sign.
Nora tells Thawne that Godspeed is in the custody of CCPD. She tells him that he could train her, but he explains her there isn’t enough time. He says his time on this earth is coming to an end and we see a timer counting down. Nora gets saddened and tells him there is so much that she wants to ask him about. He says there is so much he wants to tell her and then he asks her how much she really knows about The Flash.
Nora goes to the museum and takes the ring off the Reverse Flash suit. She counts her way to the secret wall where old Flash suits are stores and more. She uncovers Gideon (Morena Baccarin) and realizes that she it knows who she is. Gideon reveals to Nora that Barry Allen was The Flash and she shows her a video message he left for her. Barry tells Nora that he doesn’t have much time. If she’s seeing this video then she has powers too and he isn’t there to see them. He tells her to remember that he will always love her.
Nora tells Barry in the present that she just wanted to see him. Thawne showed her how and it was her idea to come back in time to make right the Cicada case that couldn’t be solved. Barry asks for he and Nora to have a moment alone. Everyone leaves the room and Barry wonders how many times Nora went back to see Thawne. She notes she went back maybe five times, but Barry is hurt because she kept going back even after knowing what Thawne did to his mother and after having more people to go to for help. He tells her that he doesn’t trust her and he can’t have anyone there with them that he doesn’t trust anymore. He flashes to the the future as she cries in protest. He tells her that if she tries to come back in time again he will feel it in the speedforce and he will know. He leaves her there alone.
Barry goes to Thawne’s cell in 2049. He screams at Thawne saying that it wasn’t enough to take one of his family members, but he was going to take his daughter away from him too. Thawne stays calm and tells him not to hold it against her as she just wanted to see her father. Barry tells Thawne that he lost and he’s finally going to get what he deserves.
