The Good Place – Jeremy Bearimy

So, everyone saw a shirtless Chidi (William Jackson Harper) in the most recent episode of The Good Place right? Who knew all of that was under Chidi’s well-mannered, proper daily attire?! Okay, now that we got the swooning sort of out of the way, let’s dive into “Jeremy Bearimy”!

We last left off when the group saw Janet (D’Arcy Carden) and Michael (Ted Danson) opening the door to the afterlife. Michael tries to play it off by saying they are part of a FBI mission, but that explanation doesn’t last for too long. Since there is no way to explain away what the group just saw, Michael tells them the truth about how they were dead and in the Bad Place for 300 years and then failed to get a spot in the Good Place.

Michael goes on to explain the concept of time in real life versus the afterlife, in which the afterlife doesn’t exactly follow a linear timeline but rather curves in loops that spell out “Jeremy Bearimy.” What shocks the group the most is that they can’t earn the points they need to get into The Good Place because they now know about it and it would essentially be cheating.

Nothing can change the fate that now awaits them and the group is left to face the reality of what they’ve been told–and boy, does it make for some hilarious moments. Eleanor (Kristen Bell) gives up entirely and makes her way to the nearest bar and lies to try and get a margarita for her birthday. Meanwhile Tahani (Jameela Jamil) and Jason (Manny Jacinto) take her fortune and start giving out money to random strangers on the street. But it’s Chidi who is the most impacted by what Michael had to say and he essentially loses it, and takes his shirt off (which we thoroughly enjoyed).

Things seem to be a hot mess for everyone, until Eleanor finds a wallet in the bar that’s been left behind. And while at some point in time, she may have opted to take the wallet and make a run for it, she starts questioning or not she should give it back to the original owner. She ultimately decides to return it and goes around town trying to locate the person who the wallet belongs to.

After being sent from one house to another, she finally finds him only to learn that he wasn’t concerned with anything else in the wallet apart from a drawing made by his daughter that he calls his good-luck charm. This touches Eleanor who realizes she did the right thing for once and when she visits Chidi to tell him she has a plan, she finds him cooking a pot of chili with M&Ms and marshmallow Peeps.

They go find the others, which includes a now married Tahani and Jason so Tahani can give half of her fortune to him (sorry Janet and Larry!), and Eleanor tells them they may be doomed, but they can still try to be good. If they can’t get into The Good Place, then they can help others get in. She believes rather than accepting their doomed fate and not doing anything about anything, they can at least improve someone else’s afterlife.

Everyone agrees and is on board with Eleanor’s plan, but unfortunately, Tahani has some explaining to do to her fiance Larry Hemsworth (Ben Lawson) who shows up at the end of the episode ready to take Tahani to London to get married. Uh oh.
