The Originals – Where You Left Your Heart

Last season saw The Mikaelson family facing their greatest threat: A powerful and evil entity known as The Hollow. In order to save Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Haley’s (Phoebe Tonkin) daughter Hope, the Original vampires used the four bones of The Hollow and transferred her evil power into themselves. The only catch was that they could never be together again, thus ending their vow of always and forever. And Elijah (Daniel Gillies) asked to be compelled so he’s forget his family and their bond of love and loyalty.

7 years later. Klaus is in France where he is dropping in on some old friends. And by friends I mean people that hold grudges against him that he prefers to stop before they stop him. He’s sure everyone knows his name and reputation. “I myself prefer Klaus the Mad,” Klaus says as he rips out the man’s heart.

In Mystic Falls, a now teenage Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) accepts a large amount of cash and gives a classmate named Henry (Nicholas Alexander) two vials of her blood.  She tells him to use one now and one “afterwards.” After what? “Do me a favor, be discreet,” Hope tells Henry walking away. Henry drinks one vial of the blood and then leaves a voice mail for a woman named Lisina (Alexis Louder) saying that she’s going to get a call later. “I just want to let you know there’s nothing you could have done.” And with that, Henry jumps out of the window!

Mr. Williams (Demetrius Bridges) comes to Hope’s room and tells her that Mr. Saltzman wants to see her about Henry Benoit. Hope asks whether Mr. Saltzman has called her mom. Mr. William answers that Mr. Saltzman knows what Hope has been up to and she’s to pack her bags because she’s going home. They’re also going to let her dad (Klaus) know. “Good luck finding him,” Hope says.

Meanwhile in New Orleans, Josh (Steven Krueger), Freya (Riley Voelkel), Hayley and Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) are having drinks and talking about Mardi Gras. The wolves and the witches intend to behalf themselves but Josh hasn’t offered Vincent any assurance about the vampires. Josh says that if the vampires were given more daylight rings, it may be some incentive. Vincent is just glad that New Orleans is no longer any of Marcel Gerard’s (Charles Michael Davis) business and he doesn’t even want to think about The Mikaelsons who carry enough evil magic inside their bodies to destroy New Orleans. Even if two of them were to get together, it’d be deadly. Hayley assures that Kol is in New York, Elijah’s in amnesia land and “Klaus is wherever Klaus is these days.” A chef named Declan (Torrance Coombs) sends over drinks to tied Hayley over until their date tomorrow. “If you don’t marry that guy, I will,” Josh tells Hayley. Then, Hayley gets a telephone call from Hope’s school.

Hope reminds Henry that she told him to be discreet. “What part of jumping out of a tower is discreet?” Hope asks Henry sarcastically. Henry says he had to make sure it would work and he’d die instead of just hurting himself. Because he was constantly teased, Henry decided to activate his werewolf nature. He’s a hybrid now. But Henry asks Hope whether her infamous father Klaus Mikaelson will want to kill him (Henry) now for getting Hope suspended.

Keelin (Christina Marie Moses) wants Freya to come away with her. But Freya doesn’t want to leave until she can find a way to rid her family of the evil magic inside them so they can be together again.

Marcel has a romantic evening planned for Rebekah (Claire Holt). “I call it four objects and a question.” Marcel reminds Rebekah that he told her after their first duel that he’d someday marry her. “I told you I’d never marry someone who couldn’t best me,” Rebekah tells Marcel. But Marcel doesn’t want to best Rebekah. He tells her that he wants them to be partner side-by-side. Then, Marcel proposes. Rebekah cries emotional tears. Marcel shows Rebekah two envelopes: one for if she says yes and the other for if she says no. Marcel smiles that it should be an easy question to answer. But for Rebekah, it’s not. “Don’t say it’s because of your family,” Marcel says.

Klaus goes to the club where Elijah is playing piano. He tells Elijah that his family is geographically challenged. “’I have a daughter that I haven’t seen in seven years.” Klaus talks about his brother to the brother who doesn’t remember him. “I just realized how far away until now.”

Rebekah hasn’t said yes or no to Marcel’s proposal, but Marcel is still angry that Rebekah is continuing to put her family first. Rebekah sarcastically comments that Marcel still keeps in touch with his mistress, meaning Josh, as Marcel Gerard wants to keep tabs on what’s going on in New Orleans, which he considers to still be his city. When Rebekah later goes to take a bath, the water turns to blood. Rebekah angrily calls Klaus and hears Elijah’s voice in the background. “How does he look?” Rebekah asks. “Happy,” Klaus answers telling Rebekah that he finally got up the courage to talk with Elijah.

Hayley scolds Hope for drawing attention to herself. Hayley reminds her daughter that she enrolled her in the school as Hope Marshall to keep her safe so no one would know her connection to The Mikaelson family.

Freya talks with Vincent about how Keelin wanted her to go away with her. But after Freya tells him how Hope got herself in trouble at school for giving a Crescent boy who got picked on some of her blood so he’d become a hybrid, Vincent urges Freya to tell Keelin to come back to New Orleans.  They (Freya and Vincent) are the glue that holds the city together.

Hayley stood Declan up for their date and tells him that with the problems with her daughter Hope, she thinks she needs to focus on Hope now. Declan tells Hayley that if she wants to break up with him she has to do it like a normal person at a bar.

Hope video chats with Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) and tells him how she got in trouble. As a black sheep, Kol knows how it is to cause trouble for your family. Hope asks Kol whether he’s seen her dad. Kol hasn’t  which seen any of his siblings, but assures that sooner or later something will happen in New Orleans that will bring the family there and back together again.

In the bayou, Lisina tells Hayley that Hope put a target on Henry’s back by helping him become a hybrid. “Tell me one thing, are you here as a Crescent or as a Mikaelson?” Lisina asks Hayley. “I’m here as a mom,” Hayley answers. She knows that Hope messed up, but she’s there to make it right.

Tired of being apart after waiting decades to be together, Marcel gives Rebekah an ultimatum: Either she meets him at 3:45 in city hall to get married or they’re done forever. “Either you’re all in or you’re all out,” Marcel warns.

Klaus continues his reign of bloody New Orleans terror when he’s confronted by a face from the past: Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola King). Caroline tells Klaus that Hayley called him because apparently Klaus no longer picks up the phone. Caroline was already in France on business, not because of a longing to see Klaus. “I don’t know what year you think this is,” Caroline tells Klaus, “I was married and widowed all on the same day.” She asks Klaus why he is picking off all the members of one family in France.

Freya tells Vincent that she’s afraid that if she doesn’t go away with Keelin, she’s going to lose her.

Hayley learns that Hope wants to go see Klaus. Hayley tells her daughter that her father can’t see her because he doesn’t want to put her in danger. “Try not to judge him too harshly,” Hayley says. She assures Hope that she’s not judging her for the mistakes she’s made. Just then, they see Henry hovering over the body of Poppy (Katie Cook), thus igniting his werewolf curse. The vampires demand that Hayley turn over Henry to them. Hayley reminds that the wolves and vampires have evolved past the eye for an eye mentality. She promises to teach Henry to curb his hybrid urges so he won’t be a danger to the vampires.

Klaus tells Caroline that he’s killing his and Elijah’s enemies. Basically, everyone who is a threat to Elijah because in his brother’s current state, Elijah wouldn’t recognize an enemy if it walked up to him and sat beside he at his piano. Caroline encourages Klaus to call his daughter before he loses Hope for good.

Hayley calls Declan to tell him that she’s be late for their date.  But someone knocks Hayley out.

While Marcel waits for Rebekah at city hall, she is with Elijah.

Hope tells her aunt Freya how her mom went outside to make a call but never came back. Hope and Freya see blood coming from the fountain and later, Freya gives Hope the broken cell phone that someone found that belongs to Hayley. Just then Hayley’s cell phone rings. It is Klaus. When Hope answers, he’s surprised to hear his daughter’s voice. “I was looking for your mother,” Klaus says. “So are we, she’s missing,” Hope tells her father. “I’m on my way,” Klaus tells Hope.

Vincent is writing in his journal about how if the four Mikaelsons are together it will trigger a reaction the likes of which they’ve never seen. It begins raining blood.
