The Slipcover Company

The Slipcover Company has been manufacturing exclusive sets of covers for home and outdoor use since 1994. The company began with the concept of offering customers various new options that can be used in order to redesign the interior of their homes or even to simply protect their furniture. Over the years The Slipcover Company has expanded their products to range from slipcovers to covers for dining chairs. We had the opportunity to try out a sofa cover and found it to be an interesting change up to our living room sofa.

My home has a sleep sofa in our living room. It is a simple black couch with suede-like cushions. After two pets have come and gone and many guests have visited, this was the perfect opportunity for my family to give our couch a makeover. The drapes in our home are a mix of red, black, gold and green so I was hoping to have a number of options to sort through. Unfortunately, the site solely offers a handful color options and a few prints for covers so I picked the most dominant color in my living room. Upon selecting “Red,” a number of images of white sofa covers appear with red velvet also being an option. This is a bit confusing as I’ve selected “red” options to appear, but none the less I persisted. I looked through the images presented and thus discovered these white slipcovers also have the option to come in red! First hurdle conquered!

While looking around at the various cover styles I notice there are no dimensions noted. This would be something very helpful as it would aid in knowing whether the cover selected will fully fit your furniture. So, based on my best estimation of what I could ascertain from the covering image provided, the limited color options at hand and the design of the cover I end up selecting a Twill 2 Piece Sofa in “Red.”

The slipcover arrived in a square box, folded in a plastic bag – something like you would find when you unpack a new set of sheets or a bedspread. Inside the slipcover package comes one page of directions that feature images of a person assembling the cover. These directions were hard to follow and fairly confusing! I even worked up a sweat trying to get this cover on the couch! Once I was able to discern what to do in order get the cover to sit (somewhat) nicely [remember there were no dimensions], I then had the task of adjusting the buckles on the back of the cover and tightening them in order to fully fix the fit. Additionally, there is a separate lengthy piece of fabric with elastic where you are to stuff in the seat cushions for coverage.

While the couch is enjoying its new look, it is actually a brighter shade of red than was expected. From the (one) photo online I expected a deeper shade for display – more of a brick color. The comfort of the couch doesn’t change, of course, but those who sit on it aren’t so pleased as the material isn’t very soft. Thankfully (knock on wood), I’ve not had to test the fact that The Slipcover Company products guard against any kind of liquid spills. However, it is good to note that the covers are machine washable – a plus to any sofa owner.

The Slipcover Company actually offers a number of options for throws, double-sided slipcovers, day bed covers, pillows, car covers, headboard covers and pet covers. Most importantly, in today’s economy, is to discuss the prices! Prices range from $13.99 for covers for chairs to $99.99 for furniture covering. To me, these are reasonable amounts for a high-quality covering – even if it does require quite a bit of effort involved for assembly. Think of how much you would spend buying a new piece of furniture or even reupholstering a piece that you own!

If you’re looking for an inexpensive, yet easy change of pace for your furniture I’d say give The Slipcover Company a chance. This is an easy and more affordable way than shelling out for new sofas, couches, chairs, etc. every few years. For those with young kids or pets that like to cuddle, consider a slipcover!
