The Unicorn – Swerve and Volley
By: Sammi Turano
The episode opens with Wade (Walton Goggins) teaching Grace (Ruby Jay) how to drive. She complains about the red light being too long….as it turns to green. She ends up driving too slow, causing a traffic jam as she gets stuck in the middle of an intersection.
Wade tells Forrest (Rob Corddry), Ben (Omar Miller), Delia (Michaela Watkins) and Michelle (Maya Lynne Robinson) about the incident leading to them sharing driving stories. As Wade serves dinner, everyone is surprised that he made seafood kebabs. It turns out that he went to the fish market with Shannon to get the ingredients. Everyone comments on new love.
That night Delia and Forrest agree they need a chance because they are in a rut. They remember doing exciting things when they first got together and decide to play tennis again. Delia wonders why they stopped playing and Forrest claims to have no idea. They decide to play again.
Wade gives Grace another driving lesson, which is once again a disaster. He tells the story to the guys as they watch the game. As he ponders over why this is so hard, Forrest complains about playing tennis with Delia. He and Ben also point out that kids find everything their parents do crazy and annoying. Forrest reminds them of how his mom was in a Fleetwood Mac cover band and it made him turn to death metal.
Ben and Forrest offer to teach Grace how to drive. Ben thinks he has it in the bag, but Michelle thinks otherwise. Forrest also offers, but Wade reminds him of the time he drove into the water and it made the newspaper. However, Ben is also a disaster in teaching Grace.
Delia and Forrest play tennis. Delia does well and takes things too far celebrating, which annoys Forrest.
Michelle had better luck teaching Grace and they end up having some sweet woman to woman bonding.
Wade makes more kebabs for himself, Natalie (Makenzie Moss), Ben and the others. He says that they will be eating them for awhile. As they chat Michelle and Grace walk in. Michelle says that Wade almost has a driver on his hands. Wade goes to give Grace a high five and she calls him embarrassing. He reminds her that once she is driving he won’t be able to embarrass her as much.
Delia and Forrest walk in with Delia still bragging about the game. Forrest finally has enough and says he let her win. They begin to argue and challenge each other to a rematch…with their friends watching.
The next day Delia and Wade try to have their rematch, but keep arguing. Wade talks to Grace about getting driving lessons from Michelle, but Grace decides that driving is bad for the environment. Natalie makes a sassy comment and Grace ends up walking home in a huff due to the arguing her revelation caused.
Michelle and Ben make fun of the tennis game and Delia and Forrest continue to argue. Nobody else is paying attention to them except Noah (Devin Bright), who throws balls at Forrest’s head. The fight begins to get passionate, causing everyone to leave.
Wade and Grace have a heart to heart about growing up and how she is not ready to drive. They end up talking about her mom and how Grace had to grow up too fast. They bond and agree she can be a kid as long as she wants, but one day she will drive him home after one too many as he sings.
The episode ends with Delia and Forrest in bed, but too tired and sore to move.
