The Weekend Classic – Better Health

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I’d say we’re an emo band with pop punk influences.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) We all grew up with 90’s and classic rock so we get down to some Led Zeppelin or Nirvana. Some more current artists that we draw influence from would be Balance and Composure, The Wonder Years and The Story So Far.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Cut Me Off.” What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I think it’s just a straightforward emotional song with a catchy chorus. Easy to relate to, easy to sing to.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) The video shows Chris [Webster] going through the stages of emotions of being hurt by someone and struggling to let it go. At the end of the video he cuts his hair and cleans up to change his appearance and start over. Sometimes it’s easier to let go of things and start over.

Q) What is your song writing process?

A) Most of the time we just meet up and start jamming until we have a solid base. From there we fine tune it and add little details here and there. Sometimes one of us will come with a full song ready to go.

Q) Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) Sometimes. Chris and I (Ryan) write a lot of poetry and try to fit what we already have written in a song, but it is a lot easier writing a melody if you already have the context. So, a little of both!

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) We have an insanely talented producer, Seth Henderson of ABG studios, who pretty much let us take the reins. If we have an idea, he can make it happen.

Q) What can fans expect from a live The Weekend Classic performance?

A) We’re really loud and energetic live. Some people have told us our live sets are much more in your face than our recordings.

Q) What songs off your Better Health EP are you looking forward to performing live?

A) All of them are extremely fun to play live, but there are few bangers like” Daydream” and “Room to Grow” that sound huge live.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to your new EP as a whole?

A) The whole record is kind of a gradual decline in emotional stability, but complacency and contentment find its place. There are more positive parts to songs than others, but at the end of the day, life is hard and you just have to be content and go with it sometimes.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) We love playing anywhere that will let us, but we tend to spend a lot of time in the Midwest. Chicago’s scene is insane right now. St. Louis shows are always fun and surprisingly we always have a great time in Edinboro, Pennsylvania. We’ve played those spots so many times now that we just have a huge group of friends that support us.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I think it would be awesome if we got Lynn Gunn or Lights on a track. Maybe 2 Chainz?

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) There’s been two records I’ve had on repeat lately: Plastic Cough by Great Grandpa and Feel Something by Movements. They’re both just so dang catchy.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) We’re from a really small town so we don’t have like an immediate physical fanbase. That’s why we heavily rely on social media and touring to get our music out there.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you to everyone that’s ever came to a show, bought merch, let us crash on their floor, let us pet their dogs and really anyone that’s ever been interested in us. We’re still a pretty small band, but we’ve accomplished so much more than we thought we ever would and we couldn’t do any of this without our fans.
