In 1934, Bonnie Parker (Jaqueline Byers) and Clyde Barrow (Sam Strike) drive down the road before being gunned down by police and bounty hunters. In the present, Lucy Preston (Abigail Spencer) tries to connect with her fiancé, Noah (Daniel DiTomasso). The conversation is awkward and Noah tells her that he is trying to be patient despite her becoming a different person overnight. At headquarters, Agent Denise Christopher (Sakina Jaffrey) informs Lucy, Wyatt Logan (Matt Lanter) and Rufus Carlin (Malcolm Barrett) that Garcia Flynn (Goran Visnjic) has traveled back to 1934. She shows them evidence that Flynn is going back to retrieve the “Rittenhouse Key.” When pressed for information on Rittenhouse, Team Timelss deny knowing anything about it.

As they prepare for their mission, Wyatt notices that Lucy is still wearing her engagement ring. Lucy questions whether she is meant to be with Noah, but Wyatt doesn’t agree with her. Jiya (Claudia Doumit) kisses Rufus goodbye before the three travel back in time. After they pull up to the bank in a stolen car, the three debate whether they should tell Agent Christopher what they know about Rittenhouse. They enter the bank, but their investigation is cut short when Bonnie and Clyde enter and rob the bank. Lucy notices the key around Bonnie’s neck.

Outside, Rufus sees Flynn and Hamer (Chris Mulkey) pull up to the bank. Bonnie and Clyde leave the bank and Lucy and Wyatt follow them. A shootout begins as soon as they step out of the bank and Wyatt joins the fray with his gun. Bonnie asks Lucy and Wyatt why they are helping them and Lucy tell her that the cops are after them as well. They agree to escape together, leaving Rufus in the middle of the town square. Later that evening, Lucy and Wyatt get Bonnie and Clyde to trust them by telling them that they are a bank robbing duo as well. As Clyde invites them into their hideout, Wyatt insists that they grab the key and run. However, Lucy says that they need to figure out what the key is first. She also tells him that they are on a deadline, as Bonnie and Clyde will be killed the next morning.

The police questions Rufus about the bank robbery and he raises their suspicions due to his eloquent language. Flynn spots him and tells Hamer that he is part of Bonnie and Clyde’s gang. Connor Mason (Paterson Joseph) goes to see Agent Christopher and she tells him that she’s busy investigating the evidence from Flynn’s warehouse, rejecting his offer of help. Hamer tells Rufus that Flynn told him his real name and that he is working with Lucy and Wyatt. To prove his innocence, Rufus shows him his ID that identifies him as Wesley Snipes. Flynn fails to convince him that the ID is a forgery and Hamer tells him that there is a member of Clyde’s gang willing to testify against them.

Bonnie, Clyde, Lucy and Wyatt drink together in the hideout. Bonnie catches Lucy staring at the key around her neck and tells her that Clyde gave it to her when he proposed. Bonnie reminisces on their first meeting and Lucy is excited to hear the story firsthand. Bonnie asks Lucy how Wyatt proposed and Wyatt fills them in on the story of how he proposed to his wife. To sell the ruse, Wyatt kisses Lucy and they both feel something from the kiss.

As Wyatt and Lucy continue to play up being a couple, Wyatt asks Clyde about the key necklace. He tells him that he stole the key from Henry Ford. Lucy asks to see the necklace and finds that it has a Latin inscription engraved on it that says “the key to the beginning of all time and the key to the end of all time.” Lucy and Wyatt agree to take the necklace when Bonnie and Clyde fall asleep. Back at the police station, Henry Methvin (Billy Wickman) is dragged in for questioning. He doesn’t recognize Rufus and gives up the location of Bonnie and Clyde’s hideout. With no evidence linking Rufus to Bonnie and Clyde, Hamer lets him leave.

In the present, Mason meets with the Rittenhouse agent (John Getz) and tells him of Agent Christopher’s investigation into Rittenhouse. The agent warns him to stop her investigation or else her and her family will be hurt. Unbeknownst to them, a man takes photos of them from a car with Agent Christopher sitting beside him. Lucy and Wyatt lie in bed together as they listen to Bonnie and Clyde make love in the other room. Lucy questions whether people are truly meant to be with only one person; especially if you lose the person you’re supposed to be with.

The next morning, Wyatt attempts to steal the necklace off of Bonnie while she is sleeping. An abrupt knock at the door wakes them up and Bonnie and Clyde catch him in the act. Methvin arrives at the house and is immediately suspicious of Lucy and Wyatt. As they discuss what to do next, Rufus arrives and tells them that Flynn and the police are on their way. Their conversation is interrupted by Clyde, who points a gun at them and brings them inside. Rufus warns Bonnie and Clyde that Methvin sold them out, but they don’t believe him. He proves it to them by playing the recording from the station.

As Hamer and Flynn approach the house, Clyde shoots Methvin. Wyatt points his gun at them and demands that Bonnie hand over the necklace. Hamer and his men shoot at the house and Bonnie and Clyde run outside. Clyde is shot during their escape attempt. Flynn grabs Bonnie as she tries to get to Clyde and rips the necklace off her. Bonnie is shot as she sobs over Clyde’s body.

Back in the present, Agent Christopher asks about the Rittenhouse Key and is disappointed when the three don’t have any answers for her. Wyatt and Lucy meet in the clothing storage room and Wyatt tells her that their kiss was only for show and apologizes for being forward. Agent Christopher approaches Rufus at a restaurant and asks him for details about Rittenhouse. Rufus urges her to stop her investigation, but she insists that she can handle whatever is thrown at her. He agrees to tell her everything he knows about Rittenhouse. Flynn breaks into a museum and uses the key to open a box on display. He pulls out a sealed letter and is horrified at what is written in it.
