Q) Your new single “Summer Bummer,” touches on the feelings of loneliness, but it is so much more than that. What makes this song special?

A) Lyrically, I think it’s a topic that many of us can relate to – especially during 2020.  I think at some point almost everyone has picked up their phone and went on IG or Twitter hoping for some interaction, swiped through a few pics, liked a few posts, DM’d someone they know only to find nothing in return.  It’s not a song about social media in general but that loneliness that seems to be around during this point and time in history.

Q) This song takes place during the pandemic. How did that affect how this song evolved?

A) The song was written and mostly recorded last year, but it took on such a new meaning and feel this summer.  I think more than ever this has had the potential to be the summer bummer of all summers.

Q) Now, in the music video you take fans moments during the COVID-19 pandemic and compile it. What was it like looking through all the fans new normal summer moments?

A) Honestly, it was an emotional ride.  First, to have so many people want to participate was an incredible feeling.  Second, to see all of the footage and pictures of people smiling and living the best that they can was inspiring.  We are resilient and I’m proud to have a platform to showcase something that started out as sort of negative in nature (title) and have it evolve into something so positive.

Q) How did you go about selecting what to use for your video?

A) I wanted to include as many people as possible. I was blown away by the response and I felt like that if they took the time to submit, I wanted to use it.  So, I tried to use as much usable footage as possible.  I made the announcement on my social pages that if the footage you sent in wasn’t used – do not worry, I will be doing something like this again in the future!

Q) What do you hope people take away from this song?

A) We’ve talked lyrics and themes.  Musically, I hope that people find a groove into the song and attach to it that way also.  I wanted to make the song as smooth sounding as possible.  Nothing over complicated but meaningful in their own way.  Hopefully, that comes across to the listener.

Q) This song is part of your new EP Chasing Light. What are some themes you explore?

A) I wanted a “Summer” record.  So, there are a lot of summer references throughout the EP.  The title track is about a one-night trip to Vegas, but the theme was born out of being on the airplane and sort of chasing the sun.  Every time I thought we were going to lose it on the horizon, the plane would turn a little and there it was.  So, the concept of “chasing light” was born out of the flight.

Q) What has been the most exciting part of working on the EP?

A) I love working in the studio.  This time around while I was working on the mix I did some things different.  I definitely ventured out of my comfort zone and after I was finished, I felt very satisfied in a way I’ve never felt.

Q) What message do you hope people take away from the EP?

A) Life is short.  Enjoy it.  Even the seemingly little things.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Ricky Reed

Q) What advice would you give to the artists that aspire to become like you?

A) Keep working hard and never stop writing. Oh, and keep your mind open to artists that may not be on your radar!

Q) What would you like to say to your fans? (Many of whom contributed to the moments seen in the music video.)

A) Thank you for the support.  But more than that – thank you for being you and I appreciate the interaction with many of you on the social accounts!  It’s been a real pleasure.
