WHY SHOULD I WATCH?

Even though Kristal and Kyle are identical twins (both played by Melanie Leishman) they could not be more different from one another. Kristal is a selfie queen and social media influencer who cares more about the number of her followers and how many retweets she gets and Kyle is a graduate student in Biophysics who may have never taken a selfie of herself in her lifetime, much less the twenty or so a day Kristal takes. Even though these two live in the same city they are quite estranged from one another and only combine forces when Kristal wakes up in a panic the day after a New Year’s Eve celebration to find that she is invisible. If she was worried about people viewing her before, imagine how freaked out she is now! Kyle rushes to her aid and does her best to determine what caused this and how to fix it. The longer that Kristal is in invisible the greater the danger that she will just fade away and cease to exist.

It is “Kristal Clear” that both sisters have vastly differing life goals and priorities. Leishman does an amazing job at portraying both sisters. She has different mannerisms for each sister including how they talk, carries themselves, etc. Leishman is so convincing as both twins that I find that I constantly have to tell my mind it is just one actress and not two. Leishman’s performances show a vulnerability and insecurity of each girl and makes you root for both sisters. Also, kudos to the costume department for the hat tilt to The Invisible Man.

If you have a sibling, especially a sister that you are very close to in age, you will completely identify with parts of both of these girls – each in some aspect wanting something that the other sister has and each wanting to be more than the other. Despite their vast difference, when each sister needs the other they are always there for each other. This story is filled with social commentary, sibling rivalry, sibling solidarity, comedy and heart.
